♟️ About A.S.D. Scuola di Scacchi Torre & Cavallo

A.S.D. Scuola di Scacchi Torre & Cavallo is a chess association based in Sarezzo, in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, Italy. The organization affiliates with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) under club code 9121. Its activities combine tournament chess, chess education, school programs, junior development, cultural initiatives, and promotional events throughout the Brescia area. The association has promoted and taught chess across the province since 2007. International Master Roberto Messa was among its founders. Moreover, official association records document its registration in November 2007. Torre & Cavallo later entered the Italian sports register and continues as an active FSI-affiliated organization. Aristide Zorzi currently serves as President and legal representative. The FSI’s 2026 registry confirms him in that position together with council members Massimo Bussei and Samuele Zorzi. In addition, Zorzi is a federation-recognized chess instructor and remains directly involved in courses, tournaments, school projects, and public chess events.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity

Tournament organization forms an important part of Torre & Cavallo’s work. The association organizes and supports classical, rapid, junior, team, and promotional tournaments in Brescia and neighboring areas. Its recent calendar has included international tournaments in Lumezzane, Pavia, Toscolano Maderno, Castelcovati, and other locations. Moreover, the association runs events for different playing strengths, from junior and beginner competitions to FIDE-rated international opens. Torre & Cavallo also has extensive experience with official championship events. Earlier activity included provincial and regional youth championships, the provincial phase of Trofeo Scacchi Scuola, absolute provincial championships, and the Brescia rapid Grand Prix series. Therefore, tournament management has complemented the organization’s educational work for many years. In addition, the club participates in collaborative initiatives such as Brescia Senza Barriere, which connects competitive chess with accessibility and inclusion. The 2026 edition involved Torre & Cavallo alongside organizations supporting blind and visually impaired players.

🌟 Trofeo BCC Oglio e Serio

In 2026, Scuola di Scacchi Torre & Cavallo organizes the Torneo Internazionale Trofeo BCC Oglio e Serio in collaboration with A.D. Scacchi Franciacorta. The official regulations clearly identify Torre & Cavallo as the primary organizer and Franciacorta as its collaborating chess club. The tournament takes place on October 10–11, 2026, at the Centro Sportivo Comunale in Castelcovati. It includes Master, A, and B sections, with six FIDE-rated rounds and a total prize fund of €6,000. Moreover, the organizers structure the sections by rating so that players of different competitive levels can participate. Aristide Zorzi serves as the direct tournament contact. The regulations use Torre & Cavallo’s official email and the association’s bank account for registration, further confirming its operational responsibility for the event.

🎓 Scacchi a Scuola and Player Development

Chess education is one of the association’s defining activities. Torre & Cavallo has operated its Scacchi a Scuola project since 2010, bringing chess directly into schools throughout the province of Brescia. Under Aristide Zorzi’s direction, the project expanded to 56 municipalities in the Brescia area during its first eight years. It has worked with numerous comprehensive schools and includes both primary and secondary pupils. In addition, some schools have incorporated a giant-chessboard psychomotor program for younger children. The association also organizes chess courses outside schools. Its qualified instructors have worked in libraries, oratories, prisons, and day centers. Therefore, Torre & Cavallo reaches both young players and adults who may encounter chess outside a traditional chess club.

🤝 Community Chess and Cultural Projects

Torre & Cavallo uses chess as both a sport and a cultural activity. Its public programs include living chess games, giant outdoor chessboards, chess-themed exhibitions, and community events. In 2026, for example, the association collaborated with the City of Pavia on I Visconti tra Scacchi e Sport, which included a historical living-chess presentation at the Visconti Castle. This project connected chess with local history and cultural programming. The association also cooperates regularly with other Brescia-area chess clubs, including A.D. Scacchi Franciacorta, A.S.D. La Compagnia della Torre, and A.S.D. Circolo Scacchi Ghedi. Consequently, Torre & Cavallo combines its own educational and tournament programs with wider regional chess partnerships.
