Eskilstuna Schackklubb is a historic chess club in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The club’s roots go back to local chess activity from 1909, and the current Eskilstuna Schackklubb name developed after a merger in 1960. Today, the club gives players a regular base for over-the-board chess at its club room on Sveavägen 50, beside Skogsängens IP.
The club has a practical tournament culture with long games, rapid chess, blitz chess, online events, and team competition. It also keeps a clear local identity through Eskilstuna championship events, club championships, and recurring open tournaments. The Södermanlands Öppna DM is one of the club’s important open events. It uses a mixed competition format with rapid-rated games and classical long games, including standard games with a 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move time control. This gives players a strong weekend format with both speed and classical elements.
The club is also closely linked with Trettondagsblixten, a traditional blitz tournament in Eskilstuna. The event has a long history and uses a 13-round format with time-handicap blitz play. Recent editions have attracted players from several Swedish clubs, while Eskilstuna players continue to compete strongly in the standings.
