♟️ About Club d’Échecs de Hindisheim

Club d’Échecs de Hindisheim is an active chess organization based in Hindisheim, Bas-Rhin, France, south of Strasbourg. The association welcomes both children and adults and combines chess instruction, recreational play, competitive training, team competition, and tournament organization. The present association was established in 2024 with the objective of promoting and developing the practice of chess in Hindisheim. Despite being relatively young, the club has already developed a substantial membership and a structured program for children and adults. Serge Hirstel serves as President and is the club’s principal public contact and tournament organizer. The French Chess Federation currently records 42 Licence A and 72 Licence B members, giving the club more than 100 registered players. Its adult and junior teams both participate in regional interclub competition.

🏆 Tournaments & Chess Activities

Tournament organization has quickly become an important part of the Club d’Échecs de Hindisheim program. The club launched the Open de Hindisheim in December 2025. The first edition was a seven-round FIDE-rated classical tournament played at the club’s regular venue in Hindisheim. Serge Hirstel served as organizer, while Rachid Heddache was Chief Arbiter. In 2026, the club expanded its tournament program with the 1er Open d’été de Limersheim-Hindisheim, held from August 28–30. Like the winter Open, it was designed primarily for developing tournament players and restricted to competitors below the published rating threshold. The 2ème Open de Hindisheim 2026 follows from December 19–21. It consists of seven FIDE-rated rounds at 50 minutes plus a 10-second increment per move. The tournament is restricted to lower-rated players, with participation limited by the available playing capacity. The club also organizes smaller competitions, including internal tournaments and youth events. A FIDE-rated internal rapid tournament was held in June 2026, while dedicated competitions for very young players have also been staged in Hindisheim.

🌱 Junior Chess & Training

Youth chess is a major part of the club’s identity. The association welcomes children from approximately five years of age and provides dedicated sessions for young players at different stages of development. FFE records show several weekly youth sessions, including Wednesday and Saturday training. Adult players also have regular evening sessions. The playing room is located on the ground floor of the Hindisheim school at 130 Rue de la Gare and is listed by the FFE as wheelchair accessible. The club’s HelloAsso profile describes the association as strongly youth-oriented, with children representing a large proportion of its membership. Players can participate recreationally or progress into FFE-rated competition and regional team chess.

Club d’Échecs de Hindisheim participates in both adult regional interclubs and regional youth interclubs, creating a pathway from regular training into official team competition. Serge Hirstel is also registered within the French federation’s chess-training structure and is closely involved in the club’s instructional and organizational activities. Since its establishment, the club has developed rapidly from a local association into a sizeable chess community with more than 100 federation-registered players, multiple weekly training sessions, team competition, youth events, and recurring FIDE-rated opens. Its location south of Strasbourg also allows the club to attract players from across Alsace. The summer tournament in nearby Limersheim demonstrates the club’s willingness to extend its activities beyond Hindisheim while maintaining a strong local identity.
