⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The championship used a classical time control of 90 minutes per player, plus a 30-second increment from move 1. Therefore, the event gave young players a serious long-game format suitable for a continental school championship.
Most categories used Swiss-system pairings. However, some final sections used a different format because of field size. The championship followed ECU Championship Rules and the FIDE Laws of Chess.
Tie-breaks started with direct encounter. Then Buchholz Cut 1, Buchholz, greater number of games with Black, and greater number of wins decided further rankings when needed.

Age Categories
The championship covered six school-age categories: U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17. Each age category had Open and Girls title recognition.
Eligibility by Birth Year
U7 covered players born on January 1, 2019, or later. U9 covered players born on January 1, 2017, or later. U11 covered players born on January 1, 2015, or later.
U13 covered players born on January 1, 2013, or later. U15 covered players born on January 1, 2011, or later. U17 covered players born on January 1, 2009, or later.
Federation Registration
Players entered through ECU member federations. Previous European School Champions also had personal rights to participate in the corresponding age category or a higher age category when they met the ECU conditions.

Players with personal rights received board and lodging coverage in double or triple rooms from the official arrival day until breakfast on the departure day.
🚆 How to Get There
Most delegations used Split Airport for arrival. The airport was about a 15-minute drive from Hotel Medena and offered regular connections through Zagreb and other European destinations.
The organizer provided two-way transfer between Split International Airport and the hotel on the official arrival and departure days for €30 per person. Transfers on other days required separate confirmation with the organizer.
ℹ️ Other Practical Information
Only players and arbiters entered the playing area, unless the Chief Arbiter gave permission. This rule supported the championship environment and helped maintain fair playing conditions.
European anti-cheating rules applied throughout the event. In addition, random anti-cheating inspections formed part of the championship procedures.
Appeals had to be submitted in writing within one hour after the relevant game ended. Each protest required a €200 deposit, which returned if the appeal succeeded.
Overall, the European Schools Chess Championship 2026 gave young players a serious continental stage in Trogir and produced a full set of new European school chess champions.
