A.S.D. Circolo Scacchi R. Fischer Chieti, commonly known as Fischer Scacchi Chieti, is a chess club and tournament organizer based in Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. The club has been continuously affiliated with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) since 1968 and has developed into one of the most successful competitive chess organizations in the region. Its activities include tournament organization, team chess, youth development, school chess, club play, and participation in Italy’s national championship system. Fischer Chieti combines grassroots activity with high-level competition. The club has organized major FIDE-rated international festivals in Montesilvano, national team-championship events, school competitions, youth activities, and recurring classical tournaments. Its competitive record is particularly strong: Fischer Chieti has won two Italian Open Team Championships and, after its 2025 victory, nine Italian Women’s Team Championships. The club continues to field teams containing Grandmasters, International Masters, leading Italian players, and strong female competitors. Andrea Rebeggiani is the current President and principal organizer of Fischer Scacchi Chieti. He also serves as Tournament Director for the club’s international festivals. In 2026, Fischer Chieti organized the 11th International Chess Festival “Pasqua a Montesilvano” in April and competed in both Italy’s Master and Women’s team championships. Its next major event is the 32nd International Chess Festival “Grand Hotel Adriatico” from September 7–14, 2026, followed by the 33rd International Chess Festival Grand Hotel Adriatico from December 18–20.

🏆 National Team Chess

Fischer Scacchi Chieti has a notable record in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre (CIS), Italy’s national team championship. The club won the Italian Open Team Championship in 2008 and 2016. Its 2016 title placed Fischer Chieti ahead of Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova and Club 64 Modena in the final standings. Women’s team chess has produced even greater long-term success. Fischer Chieti has accumulated nine Italian Women’s Team Championship titles, with its latest championship coming in 2025. That 2025 team featured GM Monika Soćko, IM Olga Zimina, Lara Scagliarini, and Alessia Natoli, with Eugenia Di Primio serving as captain. Fischer Chieti finished level on match points with Caissa Italia Agnelli 1907 but won the national title on board points. In the 2026 Women’s Team Championship, Fischer Chieti finished third nationally, behind Caissa Italia Agnelli 1907 and Pedone Isolano Misilmeri.

♜ 2026 Master Competition

The club also competed in the 2026 CIS Master, Italy’s highest open team division. Its registered squad included GM Bartosz Soćko, GM Igor Janik, GM Denis Rombaldoni, IM Iart Luca Shytaj, GM Carlos García Palermo, IM Giulio Borgo, IM Olga Zimina, FM Antonio Loiacono, and several other strong players. Although Fischer Chieti was relegated from the Master division at the end of the 2026 championship, GM Igor Janik won the second-board individual prize, highlighting the strength of the team’s top lineup. The club also maintained another team in Serie A1 competition, demonstrating the depth of its national team program.

🎓 Youth and School Chess

Youth development and school chess have been important parts of Fischer Chieti’s work for many years. The club has organized chess courses, assisted practice, individual and team competitions for young players, and structured projects within local schools. Its school-chess activity has introduced large numbers of children to the game while creating a pathway toward federation competition. Fischer Chieti has also contributed to the organization of major Italian school championships. In 2017 and 2018, it supported the national finals of the Trofeo Scacchi Scuola in Montesilvano after organizing regional qualifying stages with more than 300 participants. The 2018 national school finals reached approximately 1,724 players, illustrating the scale of the events with which the club has been involved.

🌊 International Chess Festivals in Montesilvano

Fischer Chieti has developed extensive experience organizing international chess events at the Grand Hotel Adriatico in Montesilvano, on Italy’s Adriatic coast. The club has organized numerous editions of the Festival Internazionale Grand Hotel Adriatico, generally attracting players from Italy and several other federations. These events combine FIDE-rated classical chess with multiple rating sections, hotel accommodation, electronic-board broadcasts, and a residential tournament environment. The 11th International Chess Festival “Pasqua a Montesilvano” took place from April 3–6, 2026. It featured three FIDE-rated sections and six classical rounds. Andrei Martinovici won the top section with 5.5/6. The Easter festival continued a tournament series that has become a regular component of the club’s calendar.

🌟 32nd International Chess Festival “Grand Hotel Adriatico”

The club’s principal upcoming event is the 32nd International Chess Festival “Grand Hotel Adriatico”, scheduled for September 7–14, 2026 in Montesilvano. The festival will feature four sections:

• Open A: minimum 1950 FIDE
• Open B: 1775–2000
• Open C: 1575–1825
• Open D: below 1625

Open A, B, and C will play nine rounds, while Open D will play eight. The classical time control is 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move one. Andrea Rebeggiani serves as Tournament Director, with IA Sergio Pagano as Chief Arbiter and IA Tiziana Balzarini as Deputy Chief Arbiter. The international starting list already includes titled players from several federations, continuing the club’s established tradition of bringing strong competitive chess to Montesilvano.

❄️ 33rd International Chess Festival Grand Hotel Adriatico

Fischer Chieti will return to Montesilvano for the 33rd International Chess Festival Grand Hotel Adriatico from December 18–20, 2026. The FSI-registered event will feature three FIDE-rated classical sections. Open A is intended for players rated at least 1850, Open B covers approximately the 1575–1900 range, while Open C is for players below 1625. The tournament will use five rounds at 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move. The published prize package includes €2,250 in cash prizes plus €800 in vouchers, making it another substantial weekend tournament in the club’s annual program.

🏛️ Organization and Leadership

Andrea Rebeggiani is the current President of A.S.D. Circolo Scacchi R. Fischer Chieti and remains the central contact for the club’s tournaments and national-team activity. The current FSI-listed board also includes Eugenia Di Primio and Claudio Giacchetti. Under Rebeggiani’s leadership, Fischer Chieti has maintained a distinctive combination of elite team chess, international tournament organization, women’s chess, youth development, and school activity. Its repeated involvement in national finals and major tournaments has established the club as one of Abruzzo’s most prominent chess organizations.
