Romanian Chess Federation

Founded in 1935, the Romanian Chess Federation is the national governing body for chess in Romania and a leading chess tournament organizer in Eastern Europe. Working with clubs, municipalities, and schools, it coordinates a year-round calendar of FIDE-rated classical, rapid, and blitz events, alongside coaching, junior pathways, and arbiter development. With clear regulations, experienced arbiters, and player-first logistics, the federation offers reliable opportunities for rating progress and high-quality competition—anchoring open chess tournaments in Bucharest and across the country.

Flagship competitions include the Romanian Chess Championship (men’s and women’s), national youth championships, team leagues, and nationwide scholastic initiatives that broaden participation from grassroots to elite levels. The federation also partners on international series and festivals that bring strong domestic and visiting fields to Romania, reinforcing the country’s status as a hub for Balkan and European chess.
