German Amateur Chess Championship 2026/2027 – Berlin Qualifier
The German Amateur Chess Championship 2026/2027 – Berlin Qualifier takes place from January 7–10, 2027, at the Maritim proArte Hotel Berlin in the heart of Germany’s capital. The German Chess Federation (Deutscher Schachbund) organizes this qualifier as part of the 2026/2027 Deutsche Schach-Amateurmeisterschaft (DSAM). Players compete in seven rating groups over five classical rounds, with results counting toward FIDE Standard Elo and German DWZ.
The Berlin event forms one of seven qualifying tournaments leading to the German Amateur Chess Championship final. Each group offers seven qualification places, with awards for the leading players and a separate recognition for the highest-ranked woman. The series welcomes members of German chess clubs as well as players without club membership. Its group structure gives competitors opportunities to face opponents of broadly comparable strength.
The tournament hotel lies on Friedrichstraße in central Berlin and offers special room rates to participants. Thursday evening features personal check-in and an optional blitz competition. Classical rounds begin on Friday morning and conclude on Sunday, followed by the prize ceremony. Visiting players can combine a full weekend of competitive chess with easy access to Berlin’s main rail connections and cultural attractions.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The Berlin qualifier runs in seven separate Swiss-system sections. All groups share the same five-round timetable, 90-minute first period and 30-second increment from move one. The 15-minute additional period begins after the first 40 moves. The 30-minute default time applies to every scheduled round.
Every group plays five rounds under the Swiss system. Each player has 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 15 minutes for all remaining moves. A 30-second increment applies from move one. All seven groups count toward FIDE Standard Elo and German DWZ rating evaluation.
The organizer requires players to arrive at their boards no later than 30 minutes after the scheduled round start. The tournament follows the current FIDE Laws of Chess. Arbiters may also carry out anti-cheating checks, including inspections of electronic devices in accordance with the event regulations.

🏆 Prize Fund
The federation awards a combination of merchandise, vouchers and cash prizes, rather than announcing a fixed total cash fund. The top seven players in each section receive awards and qualify for the championship final. The first three also receive trophies, while every top-seven finisher receives a certificate. Award winners must attend the prize ceremony to collect their prizes.

|---|---|
| 🥇 Places 1–3 | Trophies, plus individual prizes |
| 🏅 Places 4–7 | Merchandise, vouchers or cash awards |
| 📜 Places 1–7 | Certificates and national final qualification |
| 👩 Leading woman | Separate women’s award outside the first seven |
| 🏆 Club classification | Prizes for the three most successful clubs |
If a woman does not finish among the first seven in her section, the highest-placed woman receives an additional final qualification place. The federation also recognizes leading chess clubs by combining the points of their four most successful eligible members. These awards follow the published national series regulations.
♟️ Sections / Groups
The tournament offers seven groups based on a tournament rating figure (TWZ). The federation uses the German DWZ list and FIDE Elo list dated November 1, 2026 for initial assignment. Eligible players may select a stronger group on the basis of a higher FIDE rating under the published conditions.
| Group | TWZ Range |
|---|---|
| Group A | 2101–2350 |
| Group B | 2001–2100 |
| Group C | 1901–2000 |
| Group D | 1801–1900 |
| Group E | 1701–1800 |
| Group F | 1551–1700 |
| Group G | 1550 or below |
Players without an established DWZ or FIDE Elo receive an assignment from tournament management. Participants who compete in several qualifiers normally remain in the same group unless the rules permit them to move upward. This approach helps keep the DSAM series consistent across all seven qualifying venues.
