The organizer states that the prize fund can be increased if entries are strong enough. Unrated players can receive no more than 50% of an ordinary prize and do not qualify for rating prizes. A player receives only one prize.

📝 Registration

The main entry fee is £20 / approx. $30 for players with the required ECF membership status. Players who require the published ECF Bronze / non-member charge pay an additional amount under the congress rules. Juniors under 16 on September 1 receive a £3 deduction.

Online entry closes on October 2. A £5 late fee applies after September 30 where the organizer accepts the entry.

The congress is a one-day event, so there is no official room block. Players travelling from farther away can look for accommodation in Holsworthy, Okehampton, Bideford, Launceston, or other nearby North Devon / west Devon locations.

Peter Clarke

Peter H. Clarke (1933–2014) was a strong English master, chess writer, and journalist. He became one of England’s leading players and wrote important books and biographies, including work on Mikhail Tal and Tigran Petrosian.

Peggy Clarke

Peggy Clarke (1937–2018) was also a strong competitive player. She tied for the British Ladies Championship in 1966 and later held the Woman Candidate Master title. Peter and Peggy also founded Hexagon Equipment, a well-known chess-equipment business.

Mobile phones must be switched off during play. The organizer may take photographs during the congress for normal event reporting and publicity.
