The 31. Magdeburger Open 2026 takes place from October 29–November 1, 2026 at Hegel-Gymnasium in Magdeburg, Germany. The event is organized by the Landesschachverband Sachsen-Anhalt together with SG Aufbau Elbe Magdeburg and VfB Ottersleben.

The four-day congress offers the Ottonen Open and the Editha tournament and uses seven Swiss rounds. The main time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes to finish, with a 30-second increment from move one.

The published cash tables provide more than €4,100 in specified overall and rating-band awards before additional special prizes are counted. Because those extra special awards do not have a single published cash amount, the separate USD prize-fund field is left blank.

ℹ️ Other Information

The event has separate rating rules for the two groups, so players should enter the appropriate section based on the organizer’s published eligibility criteria. Half-point bye requests must be made within the stated deadlines.

Rating & Section Rules

The Ottonen group is open to all players and is submitted for both FIDE Elo and German DWZ. The Editha group is limited to players with DWZ 1850 or below and is submitted for DWZ. The organizer checks the latest available ratings before Round 1 and can move players when their updated rating changes section eligibility.

For the Ottonen group, the tournament rating is based on the higher relevant Elo/DWZ value under the published rules, and a FIDE ID is required. In Editha, the German DWZ is the principal rating basis.

Half-Point Byes

Players may request up to two half-point byes in Rounds 1–6. Requests must be made according to the tournament deadline so that the next pairing can be produced correctly.

Registration & Payment

The Ottonen entry fee is €55 and the Editha entry fee is €35. Eligible pensioners, students, school pupils, severely disabled players, and unemployed players receive the published €5 reduction.

Payment is made by bank transfer; the organizer does not plan ordinary cash payment at the venue. An online registration becomes fully valid only after the entry fee has been received. Personal registration is available on Wednesday evening and again Thursday morning before Round 1.
