♟️ About Conero Scacchi

Conero Scacchi is an Italian chess association actind Falconara Marittima. The club is affiliated with the Federazione Scacchistica Italiana (FSI) under ID 10026. It combines national team competition, FIDE-rated tournament organization, rapid chess, junior events, and collaborative international festivals across the Marche region.

The Italian national sports register records Conero Scacchi from December 7, 2006, while the association has maintained a long-running presence in organized Marche chess. In recent years, it has expanded its tournament activity considerably. Moreover, the club regularly works with other regional organizations, especially A.S.D. Scacchi La Torre Smeducci, as well as clubs in Ancona and surrounding communities.

Franco Giacometti currently serves as President of Conero Scacchi according to the 2026 FSI club register. The current board also includes Carlo Giacometti, Matteo Giuliani, Roberto Mondaini, Marco Nagni, Alessandro Palmizi, and Antonio Recchi. Meanwhile, the national sports register identifies Antonio Recchi as the association’s legal representative. Franco Giacometti remains the club’s principal operational contact for team chess and several major tournaments.

🏆 International Tournaments and Competitive Activity

Tournament organization forms a substantial part of Conero Scacchi’s current activity. The association runs its own events while also developing larger festivals through partnerships with other Marche chess clubs.

One of the club’s established projects is the Festival Internazionale di Scacchi “Usciamo dallo Stallo” in Falconara Marittima. The series began in 2021 and has continued through successive editions. Conero Scacchi has organized the festival together with A.S.D. Scacchi La Torre Smeducci, creating FIDE-rated opportunities for players at several rating levels.

The festival has expanded rapidly. By July 2026, the organizers had reached the 11th edition, held at Hotel Touring in Falconara Marittima. The competition offered three sections and a total advertised prize fund of €2,300.

Conero Scacchi and La Torre Smeducci also developed the Festival Internazionale di Scacchi “Spiaggia di Velluto” in Senigallia. The fifth edition took place in June 2026 and continued the clubs’ model of combining multi-section FIDE-rated chess with destination venues on the Adriatic coast.

In addition, the association organizes smaller competitions throughout the season. These include the Torneo della Galleria, the Torneo del Conero di Scacchi, and junior qualification events. Therefore, its calendar spans classical, rapid, youth, and international-rated chess.

♜ Team Chess and National Competition

Conero Scacchi participates directly in the Campionato Italiano a Squadre (CIS), Italy’s national club team championship.

For the 2026 season, the club competed in Serie B, Group 14. Its squad included Samuel Giambartolomei, Franco Giacometti, Carlo Giacometti, Maurizio Diotallevi, Aldo Tricarico, Philippe Briffaut, Roberto Mondaini, Antonio Recchi, Simo Todic, Alessandro Palmizi, Matthias Moroni, Matteo Giuliani, Ettore Buratti, David Giambartolomei, and Francesco Bacianini.

The 2026 Serie B gathering took place in Falconara Marittima from March 13–15. Conero Scacchi also helped organize the wider CIS gathering at Hotel Touring, which hosted teams from Serie A1, A2, B, C, and Promozione.

This dual role illustrates the club’s position in regional competitive chess. Conero Scacchi not only fields players in the national championship but also provides organizational infrastructure for multi-division team events.

🧒 Junior Chess and Youth Competition

Junior chess has become another visible area of Conero Scacchi’s activity. The association organizes events connected with the Campionato Italiano Giovanile U18, giving young players opportunities to qualify for later stages of the Italian youth championship system.

In May 2026, the club organized the 1° Torneo CIG U18 Conero Scacchi at the Galleria delle Idee in Falconara Marittima. The tournament included age-group competitions and counted for FIDE Rapid rating. Moreover, Conero Scacchi scheduled a second CIG U18 tournament for November 2026.

The club also works with community organizations around Falconara. Through these activities, chess reaches children outside traditional tournament settings as well as players already competing through the federation system.

Consequently, Conero Scacchi connects introductory chess, youth tournaments, FIDE-rated rapid play, and the national junior championship pathway.

🌟 Il Silenzio della Mole 2026

Conero Scacchi and A.D. Circolo Dorico Scacchi jointly organize the 1° Torneo Internazionale di Scacchi “Il Silenzio della Mole” from October 16–18, 2026 in Ancona.

The tournament takes place at the historic Mole Vanvitelliana, Banchina Giovanni da Chio 28. The organizers divide the event into four FIDE-rated sections: Tournament A for players above 1900, Tournament B for players rated 1700–2000, Tournament C for players rated 1400–1800, and Tournament D for players below 1600.

Each section uses a five-round Swiss system. Tournaments A, B, and C use 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move, while Tournament D uses 60 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

The administrative structure confirms the importance of Conero Scacchi within the partnership. Players who pay in advance transfer their entry fees directly to a bank account held by Conero Scacchi. Meanwhile, the regulations list Diego De Paolis, Franco Giacometti, and Carlo Giacometti as the three principal information contacts.

The event also demonstrates the close cooperation between the two Ancona-area clubs. A.D. Circolo Dorico Scacchi is a full co-organizer rather than simply a supporting partner. 🤝 Regional Chess Partnerships

Collaboration is a recurring feature of Conero Scacchi’s tournament program. Its partnership with A.S.D. Scacchi La Torre Smeducci has produced several editions of international festivals in Falconara Marittima and Senigallia.

Meanwhile, the 2026 Il Silenzio della Mole introduces a direct organizational partnership with A.D. Circolo Dorico Scacchi in Ancona. The two clubs divide public tournament contacts while using Conero Scacchi for the event’s advance-payment administration.

Conero Scacchi also works within the broader Comitato Regionale Marche FSI tournament network. Its competitions appear alongside youth championships, regional circuits, team gatherings, and FIDE-rated events throughout the Marche.

As a result, the association’s activities extend well beyond regular club competition. It contributes to a regional tournament infrastructure that connects Falconara Marittima, Ancona, Senigallia, and other chess centers across the province and the wider Marche region.
