♟️ About Mattolna Tehetségkutató Alapítvány

Mattolna Tehetségkutató Alapítvány is a chess development foundation based in Decs, Tolna County, Hungary. The organization supports tournaments, youth training, talent identification, and regional chess cooperation. Moreover, it operates the Mattolna website for the Tolna County Chess Federation. The platform publishes tournament news, calendars, results, training materials, and playing opportunities.

The foundation was established in 2008. Since then, it has worked with chess clubs, schools, coaches, municipalities, and regional partners. Its activities connect Decs, Szekszárd, Paks, Tamási, Bonyhád, and other communities. Therefore, players can access both local events and wider development programs.

Dr. Csaba Papp serves as President of the Tolna County Chess Federation. Meanwhile, Péter Gál represents Szekszárd Chess Club, Mattolna Chess School, and Sakktanitas.hu on the federation board. Their work connects administration, tournament organization, club development, and youth education.

Péter Gál also works as a chess instructor and first-class national arbiter. In addition, he leads the South Transdanubian Regional Mattolna Chess School. He manages several tournaments and serves as the main contact for the MiniMasters series. As a result, players and families receive direct support before each competition.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Activity

Mattolna Tehetségkutató Alapítvány organizes and supports classical, rapid, blitz, team, school, and youth competitions. Its recurring projects include the Mattolna Cup team championship and the Rozsnyay Mátyás Memorial. Moreover, the organization publishes information about county championships, club tournaments, and regional events.

The foundation works with Sakktanitas.hu on tournaments for young players and developing adults. These events often use age groups or rating limits. Therefore, participants can meet suitable opposition while gaining practical tournament experience. Qualified arbiters manage the pairings, rules, results, and rating procedures.

The MiniMasters FIDE U1800 Szekszárd forms part of this program. The tournament provides internationally rated standard chess for players below 1800. In addition, it welcomes both promising juniors and experienced amateur competitors. The organizer publishes schedules, entry conditions, player limits, and award categories before the event.

Mattolna also supports regular club activity in Szekszárd. For example, the Csütörtöki Királyok Ligája gives players monthly tournament experience. Meanwhile, larger events such as Mesterek Párbaja bring stronger competitors and public attention to the local chess community.

🎓 Youth Training and Talent Development

Youth development forms a central part of the foundation’s work. The South Transdanubian Regional Mattolna Chess School began its 2025–2026 program with U10 and U12 groups. Players joined from Tolna, Baranya, Somogy, and Fejér counties. Therefore, the school serves a broad area of southern and central Hungary.

The program combines monthly in-person training with regular online lessons. International Master Béla Molnár leads the U10 group. Meanwhile, FIDE Master István Taskovits trains the U12 players. The curriculum includes tactics, endgames, positional themes, calculation, and tournament preparation.

Mattolna also organizes tournaments that help identify promising young players. Age-group competitions provide suitable challenges and clear development goals. Moreover, the foundation supports school chess and the Tolna County Diákolimpia program. Consequently, children can progress from school activities into club and federation competition.

The organization works with experienced coaches through Sakktanitas.hu. Its coaching network includes FIDE Master István Taskovits, International Master Gyula Mészáros, and instructor Kristóf Kaszás. Therefore, students can receive support at beginner, intermediate, and advanced competitive levels.

🤝 Chess Camps and Regional Community

The foundation organizes and promotes chess camps, training weekends, and larger educational events. These programs combine chess study with practical games and social activities. In addition, they give young players more time to work with coaches outside the normal tournament schedule.

Mattolna cooperates with clubs and venues throughout the region. Its activities have taken place in Szekszárd, Decs, Paks, Tamási, Tab, Váralja, and other locations. As a result, children do not need to rely on one permanent training centre. Local partnerships also help the organization reach new schools and communities.

The foundation also publishes regional chess news and practical tournament information. Moreover, players can find registration forms, results, educational materials, and current schedules through the Mattolna website. Above all, the organization connects tournament activity with long-term player development across Tolna County and the surrounding region.
