The V. Iregszemcse Chess Festival 2026 takes place on October 17, 2026, at the Bartók Béla Cultural House in Iregszemcse, Hungary. The tournament forms part of the 10 Cities for Hungarian Chess Program and also serves as the 2026 Tolna County Rapid Championship.

Players compete in four groups according to age and HuRRa (Hungarian Rapid Rating). All groups use a 7-round Swiss system. The adult A Group plays at 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move, while Groups B, C and D use 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.

The tournament is not FIDE-rated. Instead, results contribute to the Hungarian HuRRa rapid rating system, which the organizers use to help determine playing groups at future events.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

All four groups play seven rounds under the Swiss system.

The organizers use Swiss-Manager for computerized pairings.

Tournament performance counts toward the HuRRa – Hungarian Rapid Rating system. Therefore, the rating gained at this event may help determine a player’s group in later HuRRa competitions.

🏆 Prize Fund

The tournament offers cash prizes in Group A, additional cash awards for eligible Tolna County players, and trophies, medals, certificates and gift prizes across the other groups.

Tolna County Prizes

Tolna County eligibility is determined primarily by the player’s club affiliation. If no club applies, the player’s place of residence is used.

🧩 Sections / Groups

The tournament has four groups based on age and HuRRa rating.

♟️ Group A – Adult Group

Group A is the adult competition.

The published group description refers to adults with:

  • HuRRa above 1400, or
  • a FIDE rating.

Adult players may compete only in Group A.

♟️ Group B

Group B is designed for players with a HuRRa rating from 800 to 1400.

Time Control: 15+5
Rounds: 7

♟️ Group C

Group C is designed for players with a HuRRa rating from 500 to 800.

The published age condition states:

  • maximum age: 15 years;
  • birth-date cutoff: January 1, 2012 or later.

Players older than the permitted age range who have a HuRRa rating between 500 and 800 must compete in Group B or A.

♟️ Group D

Group D is for players with a HuRRa rating up to 500 and a maximum age of 10 years.

Eligible players must have been born January 1, 2016 or later.

Players older than the age limit with a HuRRa rating below 500 must compete in a higher group.

The entire championship takes place on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Rounds are played continuously after the opening ceremony.

Clubs entering at least five players receive a 10% discount on the entry fees.

October 14, 2026

Late registration may still be accepted if places remain available. However, a HUF 1,000 late-entry surcharge per player applies after the deadline.

⭐ HuRRa Rating

This tournament uses the HuRRa – Hungarian Rapid Rating system rather than FIDE rating.

The organizers calculate players’ tournament performance for HuRRa purposes. As a result, the updated HuRRa rating may influence section placement at future competitions in the series.

Players must provide accurate and verifiable information when registering. In addition, all participants must follow the tournament regulations and the instructions of the arbiters.

The organizers may close registration when the maximum practical capacity is reached. They may also accept or reject late entries depending on available places.
