Spielgemeinschaft Feldbach-Kirchberg is a competitive chess partnership based in Feldbach and Kirchberg an der Raab, in southeastern Styria, Austria. Schachklub Feldbach, which was founded in 1957, has participated in the joint playing community since 2004.

The organization welcomes beginners, recreational players, juniors, and experienced tournament competitors. Members can take part in regular over-the-board chess, training, team matches, and open competitions. The club is affiliated with the Steirischer Schachverband and the Österreichischer Schachbund.

Spielgemeinschaft Feldbach-Kirchberg represents the participating clubs in Styrian team competition. Its home matches take place at Gasthaus Schwarz in Paurach, Feldbach. The venue also hosts club activities and selected public tournaments.

🎓 Youth Chess and Club Activities

Youth development forms an important part of the organization’s work. Schachklub Feldbach provides chess training for children and teenagers in cooperation with the Styrian Chess Federation.

The training program introduces beginners to the rules, tactical motifs, opening principles, middlegame planning, and fundamental endgames. Improving juniors can build on these skills through practical games, analysis, and preparation for competitive chess.

The organization also takes part in community activities in Feldbach. Its program has included youth courses, holiday activities, public chess events, and participation in the annual Feldbach Advent market. These initiatives help introduce chess to children, families, and residents outside the traditional club environment.

Adult and junior members can represent the playing community in the Styrian team championship. During the current competitive structure, Spielgemeinschaft Feldbach-Kirchberg fields teams in the Styrian Landesliga, Liga Süd, and 1. Klasse Ost. This allows players with different levels of experience to participate in suitable league competition.

🏆 Feldbacher International Süd-Ost Blitz Tournament

Tournament organization is one of the club’s principal public activities. Spielgemeinschaft Feldbach-Kirchberg has organized the International Feldbacher Süd-Ost Blitz Tournament for more than three decades.

The competition traditionally attracts players from Austria and neighboring countries, including Croatia, Hungary, and Slovenia. Its fields have included grandmasters, international masters, FIDE masters, experienced club players, juniors, and recreational competitors.

The tournament uses a fast-paced Swiss-system format and offers general prizes together with rating, junior, and senior awards. The organizer also recognizes the club with the largest group of participating players.

The 32nd Feldbacher International Süd-Ost Blitz Tournament takes place on September 12, 2026, at Gasthaus Schwarz in Paurach. The event consists of eleven rounds with a time control of three minutes plus a two-second increment per move. Results count for FIDE Blitz rating.

Johann Wimmer serves as club chairman and tournament director. Hermann Wilfling manages advance registrations, while the wider Spielgemeinschaft Feldbach-Kirchberg team provides practical organization and participant services.

Through youth instruction, community activities, league participation, and its long-running international blitz tournament, Spielgemeinschaft Feldbach-Kirchberg continues to support active chess across Feldbach and southeastern Styria.
