The FIDE World Amateur Blitz Chess Championship 2026 will take place on August 6–7, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria. The event forms part of the combined FIDE World Amateur Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2026, held from August 1 to 8.

The championship is planned with Open and Women’s sections for U2300, U2000, and U1700 players. Women’s championship sections are subject to the minimum participation conditions set by FIDE and the tournament regulations.

The FIDE World Amateur Blitz Chess Championship 2026 will be played as an 11-round Swiss tournament.

Each player receives 3 minutes for the game, plus a 2-second increment from move one.

Separate Women’s Championships will be held in a rating category if there are at least 20 women players from at least two continents.

Arrival Advice

Players should arrive on August 1, complete accreditation, and be ready for confirmation of participation on August 2 at 10:30.

Players taking part only in the Blitz Championship should still follow the official accreditation and accommodation instructions because the Blitz event is part of the combined championship week.

ℹ️ Other Information

Fair Play

The organizer will implement strict fair-play measures.

These measures include checks before entering the playing hall, delayed game transmission, playing-venue control, and procedures to prevent verbal and non-verbal communication during play.

Random fair-play checks may be conducted during the tournament.

Appeals

A protest against a Chief Arbiter’s decision must be submitted in writing to the Chairman of the Appeals Committee within one hour after the completion of the relevant game.

Each appeal requires a €200 deposit.

The deposit is returned if the appeal is granted. The Appeals Committee may also return the fee if it considers that the appeal had significant grounds.

The decision of the Appeals Committee is final, binding, and takes effect immediately.

Medical and Insurance

Medical service will be provided during the championship according to FIDE regulations.

Players must insure themselves against health risks and accidents for the duration of the championship.

Visa Information

Citizens of West African countries do not require a visa to enter Nigeria.

Other participants should follow Nigerian visa requirements. Players who need an invitation letter were required to request it by June 30, 2026.

Local Information

The standard voltage in Nigeria is 220 volts.

The local currency is the Nigerian naira.
