Douro Blitz Cruise 2026 will take place on August 20, 2026, aboard a scheduled cruise on the Douro River.

Moreover, the FIDE-rated blitz tournament will use a five-round Swiss system with 3 minutes plus a 2-second increment from move one.

In addition, the event forms part of Maia International Chess Festival 2026 and combines tournament play with a distinctive river experience.

Meanwhile, the boarding area on the Vila Nova de Gaia waterfront offers metro, rail, bus and pedestrian access from Porto.

Therefore, participants must complete advance registration and arrive before the organizer’s boarding deadline.

🗓️ Event Details

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The tournament consists of five Swiss-system rounds. Each player receives 3 minutes for the game with a 2-second increment after every move.

The compact format is adapted to the duration and setting of the Douro cruise.

Moreover, players should check the published pairings before every round and report any discrepancy immediately. Therefore, each participant should arrive early enough to find the board, prepare the scoresheet when required and follow the arbiter’s instructions.

📝 Registration

Because the event takes place on a cruise, advance registration and confirmation are particularly important.

In addition, players should retain their payment or registration confirmation and verify that the organizer has added their name to the official participant list.

Meanwhile, international players should check whether the tournament requires a FIDE ID, federation membership, visa documentation or other eligibility evidence.
