5th Blue Chevaliers International Open 2026
The 5th Blue Chevaliers International Open 2026 will take place from September 7 to 13, 2026, at Novotel Phuket Resort in Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand.
The tournament is presented by the Blue Chevaliers in partnership with Red Knight Chess Club, under the auspices of FIDE and the Thailand Chess Association. It offers a full week of classical chess in one of Thailand’s best-known beach destinations.
The main tournament will be played as a 9-round FIDE-rated Swiss tournament with a classical time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move from move one. The event also includes Bami’s Blitz, a FIDE-rated 10-round blitz side event on September 10. The total confirmed prize fund is THB 413,000 / approx. $12,290.

Tie-Breaks
Prizes will not be shared. Ties will be broken using the tie-break procedures shown on the tournament’s Chess-Results page.

The total confirmed prize fund is THB 413,000 / approx. $12,290.
All listed cash prizes are guaranteed regardless of the final number of entries.
A player may win only one cash prize. If a player qualifies for more than one prize, the player receives the highest cash prize available. If the prizes are equal, the order of priority is Open, then Female, then Sectional.

Bami’s Blitz will be played on Thursday, September 10, 2026, after Round 5 of the main tournament.
The blitz tournament will be played over 10 rounds with a time control of 3 minutes plus a 2-second increment. It will be submitted for FIDE Blitz rating.

The Blue Chevaliers and Red Knight Chess Club present the 5th Blue Chevaliers International Open 2026.
The Blue Chevaliers are a non-profit group of foreign chess players active in Thailand and South-East Asia. They promote standard 90/30 classical chess and publish the online newsletter Tiger Chess!.
Red Knight Chess Club is a chess training and tournament organization based in Thailand. It supports the event as the Blue Chevaliers’ partner and helps provide local chess organization and tournament infrastructure.

The playing area is reached by a short uphill walk.
A continuous tuk-tuk shuttle service will operate from the base of the hill starting 30 minutes before each round.

Arrival Advice
Players should arrive early enough to complete in-person registration on September 7 between 11:00 and 15:30.
Only entrants who have presented themselves for registration will be paired for Round 1.
Round 1 begins at 16:30 on September 7.
ℹ️ Other Information
Fair Play
A player in possession of a mobile phone or other electronic device at the board will forfeit the game.
A player judged to have viewed a mobile phone in a bathroom or elsewhere outside the playing room will also forfeit the game.
Players judged to have deliberately cheated will be removed from the tournament and banned from future Blue Chevaliers events.
Digital watches will be confiscated and returned after play.
Players accept that they may be randomly scanned for electronic devices at any time.
Forfeits
If a player does not appear for a game after being paired, the player will not be paired for the following round unless a timely and satisfactory explanation is provided to the Chief Arbiter or to peter.frost3@yahoo.com.au.
An unapproved forfeit may affect entry into future Blue Chevaliers events.
Disputes
In the event of a dispute or disputed result, a player may appeal to the Chief Arbiter, IA Ellie Emira Syamimi.
The Chief Arbiter’s decision is final.
No Appeals Committee is operational at this tournament.
Dress Code
Players should dress appropriately in all public areas of the resort, including the playing rooms.
Sleeved shirts are required.
Players who do not follow the dress code may jeopardize their continued participation and future entry into Blue Chevaliers events.
Spectators
Spectators may watch games if they do not disturb the players or arbiters.
Spectators should avoid frequent entry and exit from a playing room and should not remain fixed on one board.
The Chief Arbiter may clear spectators from a playing room if their presence causes distraction or interferes with the arbiters’ work.
Photography
Photography is not permitted once play is in progress.
The official photographer and arbiter may take photos of players during selected rounds.
Game Publication
Games from the top ten boards are expected to be viewable on Chess-Results within 24 hours after the relevant round.
