⏱️ Time Control & Pairings
The tournament uses an eight-round Swiss system. Each competitor plays eight games, with nobody eliminated after a loss. The clock provides 60 minutes per player plus five seconds for every move. Therefore, players should prepare for substantial games across both days.
All participants must record their moves on a scoresheet until their clock shows less than five minutes. Furthermore, the organizer provides game analysis and master coaching between rounds. The event counts toward ACF ratings. Its public announcement does not claim FIDE rating status.
🏆 Prize Fund
The organizer awards trophies and chess books rather than a published cash prize pool. Prizes recognize first, second and third place, the leading unrated player and the best junior under 18. Consequently, the monetary Prize Fund field is intentionally left empty.
👥 Sections / Groups
The event is one individual open Swiss tournament, not a team competition. It does not list separate rating or age sections. However, players can compete for the special awards for unrated entrants and juniors under 18. The standard tournament rules apply to all participants.

Directed by FIDE Master Brett Tindall, the academy runs school chess programs, coaching and competitions across New South Wales. Its Burwood centre hosts regular classical, rapid, blitz and junior tournaments.
📍 Venue
The playing hall is at Sydney Chess Centre, Suite 2, Level 2, 1–17 Elsie Street, Burwood NSW 2134, Australia. The organizer confirms this address in both its event regulations and contact page. Moreover, George Street Car Park, a council-operated paid car park, is located beneath the building.
The chess centre is in Burwood’s commercial district, near shopping facilities and public transport. Consequently, players can reach the venue by train and a short onward walk or by road. However, allow enough time to locate Suite 2 on Level 2 before registration.
🏨 Accommodation
Players traveling to Sydney can consider accommodation in Burwood or nearby Inner West suburbs. Staying close to the chess centre may simplify travel on both tournament mornings. In particular, look for hotels and serviced apartments with convenient access to Elsie Street and Burwood railway station.
The tournament organizer does not advertise an official accommodation partner. Therefore, competitors should compare their preferred properties independently. Before booking, verify the property’s full address, check-in hours and travel time to 1–17 Elsie Street. Sydney’s January holiday period may affect availability.
Visitors planning to explore Sydney can also stay closer to the central business district and use train services toward Burwood. However, allow sufficient time for the first round. Players staying outside the Inner West should check weekend or public holiday timetable variations when planning other travel during their visit.
