Austrian Chess Federation (ÖSB) is Austria’s national chess federation based in Vienna, Austria. Over the years, it has coordinated organized chess across the country while representing Austria internationally. As a result, ÖSB serves as the central tournament organizer framework for national competition and player development.
In addition, ÖSB runs headline events such as the Austrian Championships and administers the Austrian Bundesliga, the country’s top team league. The federation supports FIDE-rated tournament activity across Austria and publishes regulations for rated events, titles, and reporting. Moreover, its calendar spans classical chess championships as well as structured rapid chess and blitz chess competitions.
Furthermore, ÖSB promotes participation pathways through junior chess program initiatives and national training support. For example, it works with regional associations to expand scholastic chess and consistent coaching structures. Consequently, the federation remains a key hub for competitive chess, grassroots growth, and official chess administration in Austria.
