⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The tournament uses a 9-round Swiss system. Swiss-Manager manages pairings, tie-breaks, and standings. If needed, the tournament management may use an accelerated system in the first rounds.

Each player receives 90 minutes for the whole game, with a 30-second increment from move one. The waiting time is 30 minutes after the scheduled start of each round.

Draw agreements before both players complete 30 moves are not allowed without arbiter approval. In addition, players may request up to three half-point byes during the first five rounds. Bye requests must reach the chief arbiter and the organization at least 24 hours before the relevant round.

🏆 Prize Fund

The total confirmed cash prize fund is €6,000, approximately $6,960. Prizes are cumulative. However, players must attend the closing ceremony to receive their prizes.

The organizer will also award prizes to the first-placed players by age group and to the first team. For the team standings, the four best-scoring players from each team count toward the final result.

📂 Sections / Groups

The XIII Torneio Internacional Cidade de Famalicão is played as one main international open tournament. Players affiliated with the Portuguese Chess Federation for the 2025/2026 season may participate.

The event includes general standings, women’s prizes, senior and veteran prizes, rating prizes, age-group prizes, and team classification. As a result, players from several levels can compete for relevant prize categories within the same open event.

Players can reach Riba de Ave by car from Vila Nova de Famalicão and nearby cities in northern Portugal. The venue address is clear for navigation systems and works well for direct route planning.

For players arriving from outside the region, Porto is the nearest major travel hub. From there, players can continue toward Vila Nova de Famalicão and Riba de Ave by regional transport or car.

🧩 Other

Electronic devices are not allowed in the playing area. A reception area will be available where players can leave devices before entering the playing hall. After finishing a game, players become spectators and must leave the playing area.

Appeals must be submitted in Portuguese or English within 30 minutes after the end of the round. Each appeal requires a €100 deposit, which will be returned if the appeal succeeds. Players must also follow FPX and FIDE rules during the event.
