Claretiano International Chess Festival 2026 takes place from October 16 to October 18, 2026 at Colegio Claretiano de Lima in San Miguel, Lima, Peru. The official XVII edition is dedicated to the memory of M.N. Julio Enrique Vásquez de la Paz.

The festival combines three FIDE-rated competitions: School Classical, Adult Rapid and Open Blitz. School Classical offers five age sections from U8 to U18, Adult Rapid provides a nine-round competition primarily for adult players, while the Open Blitz brings players of all ages together in an 11-round tournament.

The festival advertises a total of S/22,550 in cash prizes, in addition to trophies, medals and other awards. School Classical and Adult Rapid overlap, so one player cannot enter both. However, the Blitz can be combined with either of the two main competitions.

📍 Venue

Colegio Claretiano de Lima – Avenida Parque de las Leyendas 555, San Miguel, Lima, Peru

The festival uses two playing areas within the Colegio Claretiano sports complex.

Classical & Blitz

Coliseo del Colegio Claretiano

School Classical and Open Blitz are played in the Coliseo.

The official tournament regulations specify access through:

Calle Alfredo Novoa s/n, San Miguel, Lima

Adult Rapid

Polideportivo del Colegio Claretiano

Adult Rapid is played in the Polideportivo, approximately 120 metres from the Coliseo.

This distinction is particularly important for players participating in Rapid + Blitz, as they will move between the two playing areas on Saturday evening.

🚆 How to Get There

Colegio Claretiano is located in the San Miguel district of Lima. Players should distinguish between the school’s main postal address and the tournament-specific access point for the Coliseo.

🚗 By Car

Venue address: Colegio Claretiano de Lima – Avenida Parque de las Leyendas 555, San Miguel, Lima, Peru

Drivers and ride-hailing passengers can use this address to reach the Colegio Claretiano complex.

For School Classical and Open Blitz, the tournament regulations specifically instruct participants to use the Calle Alfredo Novoa s/n entrance to the Coliseo.

For Adult Rapid, follow the signs or organizer instructions to the Polideportivo, approximately 120 metres from the Coliseo.

✈️ From Jorge Chávez International Airport

International participants arriving in Lima will normally use Jorge Chávez International Airport.

A taxi or app-based ride is the most straightforward way to travel directly to the Colegio Claretiano complex in San Miguel. Because road conditions and traffic in Lima can vary considerably by time of day, players should allow a comfortable margin rather than planning around a fixed journey time.

Use:

Colegio Claretiano de Lima – Avenida Parque de las Leyendas 555, San Miguel, Lima, Peru

as the destination, then follow the tournament-specific access instructions after arrival.

🚕 By Taxi or Ride-Hailing

When travelling within Lima, give the driver the full Colegio Claretiano address and specify San Miguel.

For Classical or Blitz, participants should additionally mention the Calle Alfredo Novoa entrance if approaching the Coliseo directly.

🚶 Moving Between Festival Venues

The Adult Rapid Polideportivo is approximately 120 metres from the Coliseo used for Classical and Blitz.

This is particularly relevant on Saturday, October 17:

  • Rapid Round 4 begins at 16:30
  • Blitz registration control begins at 17:30
  • Blitz Round 1 begins at 18:00

Players entering both Rapid and Blitz should therefore familiarize themselves with both playing locations before the evening programme begins.

⏰ Arrival Advice

School Classical participants should arrive before the 09:00 technical meeting on October 16.

Adult Rapid participants have accreditation from 10:15 on October 17.

Open Blitz participants should be present for the 17:30 registration check on October 17.

The published regulations do not specify dedicated participant parking arrangements, so drivers should follow the organizer’s on-site instructions when they arrive.

ℹ️ Other Information

📵 Electronic Devices & Fair Play

During play, participants may not keep unauthorized:

  • Mobile phones
  • Smartwatches
  • Headphones
  • Other electronic communication devices

The Chief Arbiter may establish a device-storage procedure or permit completely switched-off devices to remain in a designated bag or location.

Violations are handled under the FIDE Laws of Chess and the festival regulations.

👦 Minors

Every minor must attend under the responsibility of a parent, guardian, coach or delegation leader.

That responsible adult must manage the minor’s arrival, meals, medication, transportation and safe departure from the venue.

⚖️ Appeals

Appeals must normally be submitted in writing within 10 minutes after the relevant arbitral decision is communicated or after the round concerned has ended.

Published deposits are:

  • School Classical: S/100
  • Adult Rapid: S/70
  • Open Blitz: S/70

If an appeal is upheld, or the Appeals Committee considers the claim reasonable, the deposit is returned.

📷 Photography

The festival may be photographed or recorded for institutional and promotional purposes.

For minors, image-use authorization must be provided by the parent or guardian. Declining image-use authorization does not prevent participation.
