Champion Chess Club October 2026 Qualification Tournaments

26 26 people viewed this event.

The Champion Chess Club October 2026 Qualification Tournaments provide a structured opportunity for young chess players to work toward the first and second Kazakh chess categories. The competitions take place in Almaty on October 27–30, 2026, at the club’s premises inside the Bayzak business center.

Two separate qualification tracks share the venue and daily dates, but they have different time controls and qualification targets. Players working toward the second category use a shorter classical-style control. Those aiming for the first category compete in a track for first- and second-category players with a longer clock. The club provides a complete nine-round timetable for each track.

This is a youth qualification programme, not a cash-prize open. The organiser invites preschool and school-age participants from Almaty, Almaty Region and other places. Advance booking is recommended because entries close shortly before the opening round.

Second-category track 35 minutes + 30 seconds per move
First-category norm track 45 minutes + 30 seconds per move
Both tracks Nine rounds over four days; start of each day at 10:00 AM

A player should select the appropriate track for the category they seek. The longer first-category track is expressly designated for first- and second-category entrants pursuing a first-category norm. Therefore, the two time controls must not be presented as interchangeable.

The official news item lists round numbers by day but does not specify Swiss versus round-robin pairings. The format of pairings and the exact requirements for achieving a norm should be confirmed directly with the club before entry.

Qualification for second category Open to eligible young participants seeking the second sports category

Both tournaments are intended for preschool and school-age chess players. Participants from Almaty Region and visiting families are specifically welcomed by the club. Ask the organizer which existing category documents are required for the target group.

Tuesday, October 27 Rounds 1–2; first start 10:00 AM
Wednesday, October 28 Rounds 3–5; first start 10:00 AM
Thursday, October 29 Rounds 6–7; first start 10:00 AM
Friday, October 30 Rounds 8–9, then closing; first start 10:00 AM

All listed times are local to Almaty. Although two or three rounds are scheduled on each day, the club has not published individual board start times for every game. Consequently, parents should reserve enough time for the full day’s playing programme.

The organizer publishes two different phases of October qualification. The fourth- and third-category competitions take place on October 24–25, with a stated session window of 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The second-category and first-category norm programmes run on October 27–30, with their daily rounds starting at 10:00 AM. This combined listing follows the club’s October qualification programme, but parents should read only the timetable for the category their child is entering.

The 10:00 AM start dates in the late-October groups are the beginning of the scheduled rounds, not published daily closing times. For the second-category programme, October 27 has two rounds, October 28 has three, October 29 has two and October 30 has the last two. The first-category norm programme follows the same day-by-day round counts. Because the number of games differs, families should confirm the check-in arrangements and avoid assuming that every day’s session is equally long.

No verified entry fee or monetary prize fund is included in the official October announcement. Those fields are intentionally left blank rather than inferred from other events hosted by the same club.

Pre-registration is handled directly by Champion Chess Club by telephone or WhatsApp at the published number. The club states that registration closes 15 minutes before the beginning of the first playing day, and that late arrivals are not admitted. Therefore, contacting the organizer ahead of the starting date is important, especially for families traveling to Almaty from a neighboring region. The official notice does not provide a dedicated web checkout URL for each category, so no online registration button should be inferred from this listing.

👤 Organizer

Champion Children’s Chess Club maintains an active youth coaching and tournament programme in Almaty. Its official website states that it organizes qualification tournaments repeatedly throughout the year, helping students progress through the national sports-category pathway.

The event contact is +7 701 943 37 10, also used for WhatsApp applications. Questions about qualification norms, the appropriate competition, fees and practical timing should go to the chess club rather than to the business center’s office staff.

📍 Venue

The club is located at Bayzak Business Center, 52V Abay Avenue, Room 716, Almaty, Kazakhstan. The organizer specifies the room number, and the address is independently listed by the city map. Participants should enter the business-center building and locate room 716.

The club lies in the central-western part of Almaty, close to public transport. Arrive early enough to enter the building, confirm the correct category track and set up at the playing table before the start.

🏨 Accommodation

Rahat Palace Hotel Official hotel and reservations — 29/6 Satpayev Street; near the Auezov Theatre metro area
Holiday Inn Almaty Official hotel booking page — 2D Timiryazev Street

Both hotels have confirmed Almaty addresses and official booking resources. They are independent choices for families who want to stay in the city. Neither is advertised by the club as an official tournament partner, and actual rates or walking distances should be checked for the travel dates.

🚆 How to Get There

For arrivals by air, fly into Almaty International Airport (ALA) and continue by a licensed taxi or other city transport to Abay Avenue. Travelers arriving by train can connect from a city railway station using the metro or road transport. Keep the business-center address to hand, as the chess club occupies one room rather than a stand-alone street-level sports building.

The Auezov Theatre metro station is around 400 meters from 52V Abay Avenue according to the map listing. Nearby bus stops serve Abay Avenue and Bayzakov Street. The venue map is available here.

Intercity travelers can check rail services, arrival stations and electronic tickets through the official Kazakhstan Temir Zholy booking service at bilet.railways.kz. The last leg to the playing venue is urban travel within Almaty. Confirm the precise street number and office entrance before taking a taxi, and avoid navigating solely to the club name because search results may include other training addresses. Public transit should be checked against current city routing, not guessed from the nearest-looking landmark.

If arriving by air, arrange the onward transfer from Almaty International Airport to the confirmed tournament address. Players coming from other regions should allow for check-in and any required entry confirmation before the first listed round. Organizers do not guarantee an exact finishing time for a multi-round session; consequently, travelers should not buy a return connection based solely on the day’s first start time. Keeping the organizer’s contact number accessible is useful if the route or entry arrangements are unclear.

♟️ About Champion Children’s Chess Club

Champion Children’s Chess Club is an established youth chess school in Almaty, Kazakhstan, dedicated to teaching children from beginner level through competitive tournament chess. The club opened in September 2010 and has developed into one of the city’s recognizable centres for junior chess education and competition. Over the years, more than a thousand children have studied at Champion, learning the game, earning official chess categories, and participating in city, national, and international competitions. The club currently works with around 200 students each year and maintains a team of qualified coaches with extensive experience in both competitive chess and youth education.

Champion combines regular lessons with practical tournament play. Students can progress from learning the basic rules to competing for official sports categories and representing the club in stronger junior events.

Chess Training for Children

Champion provides structured chess education for children from approximately 5 to 17 years old. Preschool groups are designed for children aged five to seven, while school-age students are grouped primarily according to their playing strength and competitive experience. Beginners learn the rules, tactical patterns, basic strategy, and practical decision-making. More experienced students progress into groups for rated and category-level players, where training includes calculation, positional understanding, endgames, tournament preparation, and analysis of competitive games.

The club operates throughout the week, with classes available at different times between morning and evening. Group sizes are kept relatively small, allowing coaches to work more closely with individual students and monitor their progress.

Coaching Team

Champion’s coaching staff includes experienced competitive players and long-serving junior trainers. The current team includes WIM Irina Bulanova, National Master Elena Gaichenya, Evgeny Milyoshin, Galina Chelokhsaeva, Lars Khaidarov, and Igor Ismagulov. WIM Irina Bulanova has been closely connected with Champion for many years and previously served as the club’s director. She is an experienced player and coach who became Asian Senior Women’s Champion 50+ in 2023 and has represented Kazakhstan in high-level competition.

The coaching team combines tournament experience with long-term work with children. This allows students to receive training appropriate not only to their current rating or category but also to their age and level of competitive maturity.

Qualification Tournaments

Tournament play is a central part of the Champion development system. The club regularly organizes city qualification tournaments for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sports categories, giving young players a clear pathway from beginner chess toward stronger competitive levels. These events are held repeatedly during school holidays. In 2026 alone, Champion announced qualification tournaments during the January holidays, in May–June, June–July, and again during the October school break.

Players from Almaty, the surrounding region, and visiting families are invited to participate. This makes the tournaments useful not only for Champion students but also for juniors from other chess schools who are working toward official qualification standards.

Almaty Junior Chess

Champion has played a long-standing role in the wider junior chess structure of Almaty. The club has repeatedly served as a playing venue for age-group stages of the Almaty City Youth Chess Championship, alongside other established chess academies and clubs in the city. These championships are important events in the Kazakhstan junior chess pathway because leading players can progress toward national-level competition. Champion has hosted specific age categories and has also helped students prepare for these events through regular training and qualification tournaments.

The club’s involvement means that students are exposed to formal tournament conditions from an early stage. They learn how to use chess clocks, manage time, record games when required, follow competition regulations, and handle the psychological demands of multi-round tournaments.

Competition & Player Development

Champion encourages students to test their skills beyond regular club lessons. Its programme includes local tournaments, city championships, qualification events, chess festivals, and trips to competitions outside Almaty. The club has traditionally organized several tournament trips each year, giving stronger students additional competitive experience and the opportunity to play opponents from other regions. Its community activities have also included chess festivals, simultaneous exhibitions, family competitions, New Year events, and international trips such as chess festivals at Issyk-Kul.

For developing juniors, this combination of lessons and competition is particularly valuable. Progress is measured not only through classroom exercises but also through official results, category achievements, and practical tournament performance.

Chess, Education & Community

Champion presents chess as both a competitive sport and an educational activity. Training is designed to develop concentration, memory, logical thinking, independent decision-making, patience, and the ability to evaluate complex situations. The club also places importance on creating a supportive environment for young players and their families. Parents are actively involved in tournament travel, club celebrations, and family chess events, while children gradually become part of a larger local chess community.

After more than a decade of continuous activity, Champion has developed a clear progression model: children can begin with no previous chess experience, move through structured training groups, earn official categories, and eventually compete in stronger city and national events.
