The 42nd Turm-Open Lippstadt 2026 runs on June 4-7, 2026 in Lippstadt, Germany and offers a well-established long-weekend open with seven Swiss rounds and a €4,255 cash prize fund across three performance groups. The organizer welcomes competitive club players who want a serious classical format, clear group definitions, and a reliable schedule with two rounds per day from Thursday through Saturday. Group A targets higher-rated players and counts for FIDE Elo, while all groups count for German DWZ, which makes this event a strong choice for players who want rated games and measurable progress. The venue sits at the Schulzentrum Dusternweg, and the tournament keeps everything in one place with on-site check-in, food and drinks, and a dedicated award ceremony.

You can pick the group that matches your rating profile and focus on overall prizes, category prizes, and rating prizes, as long as the field meets the minimum category size requirements. The organizer guarantees prizes when each group reaches at least 45 participants and pays prize money only to players who attend the award ceremony. The tournament also offers a “Lucky Loser” cash draw that adds extra motivation for players who finish outside the prize places but stay through the closing ceremony. If you want a structured, DWZ- and Elo-relevant chess trip in North Rhine-Westphalia with a strong prize list and a proven format, Turm-Open Lippstadt delivers exactly that.

⏱️ Time Control & Pairings

The tournament runs seven rounds in a Swiss System and uses Buchholz with one discard and then Buchholz sum as its published tie-break method. The event uses a classical time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, then 30 minutes to finish, with a 30-second increment from move 1, which supports long, high-quality games in every group.

The organizer applies a 30-minute grace period for late arrival and treats an unexcused no-show to a round as a withdrawal in doubtful cases. The pairing software uses Swiss-Chess, and the tournament leadership publishes the participant list on the official tournament website.
