Organizer
SV Raika Rapid Feffernitz is a chess club in Feffernitz, Carinthia, Austria. The wider SV Rapid Feffernitz dates back to 1947. The chess section has grown into one of the most visible organizers in the region. The club offers active chess life for different age groups and playing levels. It also fields teams in several divisions, including the Austrian Bundesliga. In Feffernitz, the club uses the Freizeitzentrum Feffernitz as an important playing base for club chess and event activity. Moreover, this combination of local roots, regular team play, and ambitious organizing work gives SV Raika Rapid Feffernitz a strong place in Austrian over-the-board chess.
Tournament organization stands at the center of the club’s public profile. SV Raika Rapid Feffernitz runs the long-running International Open Feffernitz. This event reached its 35th edition in 2026. It also stages the Carinthian Winter Open at the start of the year. In addition, the club runs a youth open and the Drautalbank Blitz event. Thus, its calendar covers classical, youth, and faster chess in one structure. The Feffernitz open series has been running for many years and continues to attract international participation. As a result, Feffernitz has become a familiar stop on the Austrian chess calendar in both summer and winter.
Youth work remains an important part of the organizer’s identity. The club promotes junior chess, experienced training, and a welcoming atmosphere for both younger players and adults. That focus appears not only in weekly club life but also in its tournament program. In the program, youth events stand alongside the main open. Helmut Löscher has shaped much of this public chess activity over many years. His name appears across the club’s board information, youth work, contact details, and tournament direction. He is also the published contact for recent Feffernitz events. Together, these elements show a club that combines continuity, youth development, league chess, and reliable event organization under one established local name.
