The 10th Frankenthaler Weihnachtsopen took place from December 27 to 30, 2025. More than 200 players from Germany and neighboring countries competed in three strength groups over seven rounds.
The A Tournament was won by IM Martin Jablonicky after he finished on 5.5/7 and took first place on tiebreak. Markus Holzinger won the B Tournament with 6/7, while Jannik Ebenrecht won the C Tournament with 6/7.
The 2025 edition used three DWZ-based groups. The A and B tournaments received both FIDE and DWZ rating, while the C Tournament received DWZ rating. In addition, the advertised prize fund exceeded €4,500.

Schachklub Frankenthal e.V. is a long-established chess club based in Frankenthal, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Founded in 1921, the club has more than a century of chess tradition and describes itself as the largest chess club in the Palatinate by membership.
The club combines competitive team chess with regular club tournaments, open events, junior development, senior chess, training, and social chess. Its clubhouse at Am Strandbad 108 in Frankenthal provides a permanent base for activities throughout the week. Regular club evenings take place on Mondays and Fridays, while additional sessions are dedicated to juniors and senior players.
Bernd Kühn serves as First Chairman of Schachklub Frankenthal. He was re-elected to the position in 2025, continuing a long period of leadership at the club. Schachklub Frankenthal was founded in 1921, the same year as the Pfälzischer Schachbund. The club was also among the organizations involved in establishing the regional federation, creating a close historical connection between Frankenthal and organized chess in the Palatinate.
