Union of Chess Players of Kalamaria (Ένωση Σκακιστών Καλαμαριάς) is an established chess club based in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, Greece. 🌍 Kalamaria International Open 2026

The club’s flagship event is the 19th Kalamaria International Open Tournament, taking place from August 28 to September 4, 2026 at the Municipal Theatre “Navarchos Votsis” in Kalamaria. The tournament is jointly organized by the Municipality of Kalamaria, Union of Chess Players of Kalamaria, and Union of Chess Players of Thessaloniki. It features three groups, including two main FIDE-rated classical sections and a separate competition for younger players. The total announced prize fund is €5,000. The principal groups are played over nine rounds with a classical time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 15 minutes to finish, with a 30-second increment from move one. The tournament has attracted a strong international field that includes Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, and players from several federations.
