♟️ About the Organizer
UKS Twierdza Mokotów is a chess club based in the Mokotów district of Warsaw, Poland. The organization was established in 2025 and joined the Polish Chess Federation as an ordinary member in March 2026.
The club focuses strongly on chess education for children and young people. However, its tournaments also welcome adult club players, experienced competitors, and titled participants. Its program combines regular lessons, workshops, training camps, classification tournaments, and FIDE-rated events.
IM Zbigniew Strzemiecki is one of the club’s principal coaches and tournament organizers. He earned the International Master title in 2011 and has extensive experience in competitive chess and junior instruction. FM Michał Koziorowicz also contributes to selected training programs, workshops, and chess camps.
The club operates from its venue on Powsińska Street in southern Warsaw. The facility provides space for lessons, practical play, weekend competitions, and larger chess festivals.
🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Chess
UKS Twierdza Mokotów organizes a varied program of classical, rapid, blitz, and Fischer Random chess. Its calendar includes tournaments for national chess categories, FIDE-rated competitions, weekend events, and recurring tournament series.
Classification tournaments help beginners and developing players earn or improve Polish chess categories. Separate groups and time controls allow participants to enter competitions suited to their current experience.
The club also organizes FIDE-rated rapid and blitz events. Its Blitzomania Grand Prix provides regular fast-chess competition, while larger festival programs combine rapid, blitz, and Fischer Random tournaments during the same weekend.
One of the club’s most ambitious projects is Warsaw Chess Masters. The Autumn 2026 program includes four classical round-robin groups: GM, IM, Challengers, and Futures.
The GM and IM sections are designed for strong international competition and possible title-norm performances when the final fields meet the applicable FIDE requirements. Meanwhile, the Challengers and Futures groups provide structured classical competition for improving players.
IM Zbigniew Strzemiecki serves as Tournament Director for Warsaw Chess Masters Autumn 2026. International Arbiter Aleksander Kędzierski leads the arbiting team. All four groups take place at the club’s Powsińska Street venue.
Through this combination of introductory events and stronger international tournaments, the club creates a pathway from a player’s first formal competition to advanced FIDE-rated chess.
🌱 Chess Training and Junior Development
Junior development remains central to UKS Twierdza Mokotów’s work. The club provides group lessons, individual coaching, workshops, holiday programs, and practical tournament preparation.
Training sessions introduce beginners to the rules, tactics, basic strategy, and tournament procedures. More experienced students work on calculation, positional understanding, openings, endgames, and analysis of their own games.
The club also organizes chess camps connected with major Polish tournaments. These programs combine coaching, preparation before rounds, post-game analysis, tournament participation, and supervised recreational activities.
Workshops with titled players give young participants direct access to experienced coaches. In addition, regular internal and public tournaments allow students to test their progress under formal playing conditions.
UKS Twierdza Mokotów aims to make chess both educational and competitive. Children can begin with accessible lessons and category tournaments. Afterward, they can progress toward FIDE ratings, stronger open events, training camps, and international competition.
Through regular instruction, varied tournaments, and the Warsaw Chess Masters series, the club is building an active chess center for players in Mokotów and the wider Warsaw area.
