Toowoomba Chess Club Inc. is one of Australia’s longest-established chess organizations, serving Toowoomba and the Darling Downs region of Queensland. The club meets regularly at DeMolay House, 90 Margaret Street, Toowoomba, opposite Queens Park. Friday evenings form the centre of club activity, with programs for both adults and juniors. 🌟 2026 Queensland Championships

The 2026 Byron Capital Darling Downs Open represents a major step forward for the tournament. From October 1–5, 2026, Toowoomba Chess Club organizes the event together with the Queensland Championships at Toowoomba Grammar School. The competition offers three main divisions:

• Premier Division
• Major Division
• Minor Division

The Premier Division is open to players rated FIDE 2000 and above and provides opportunities for Grandmaster and International Master norms. Meanwhile, the Major and Minor divisions allow a much wider range of club players to participate. The total advertised prize pool is AU$30,000, making the event one of the largest chess competitions organized in regional Queensland.
