♟️ About Šachový klub Teplice, z. s. (Teplice Chess Club)

Šachový klub Teplice, z. s., internationally presented as Teplice Chess Club (TCC), is a chess club based in Teplice, Czech Republic. Founded in 2018 by Jiří Škapa, Pavel Kirs, and Milan Maščák, the club was created partly to ensure the continuation of the long-running TEPLICE OPEN international tournament. Since then, TCC has expanded into competitive team chess, youth development, FIDE-rated tournaments, public chess events, and technology-focused projects. It is affiliated with the Czech chess competition system and competes within the Ústí nad Labem regional structure as well as the national leagues. The club runs several teams ranging from regional competitions to the 2nd Czech National League, while junior development has become a central part of its work. TCC provides regular youth training, individual coaching, junior tournaments, chess camps, and holiday programs. It also organizes the recurring Krušnohorský Rapid, club championships, classical tournaments, public simultaneous exhibitions, and community chess activities. In addition, the club actively experiments with digital chess technology, including electronic score sheets, online boards, live broadcasts, and the FIDE-approved CLONO system. Milan Maščák serves as President of Teplice Chess Club and is the principal operational contact for the organization. Milan Křehla is Vice President, while Lukáš Šlangal serves on the Executive Committee. Maščák also acts as captain of the club’s leading team and plays a major organizational role in the TEPLICE OPEN. In 2026, the club retained its place in the 2nd Czech National League, staged a busy junior and community program, and organized the 19th TEPLICE OPEN, held from June 13–21, 2026 at SPORTARENA Teplice.

📜 History and Development

Teplice Chess Club was established in 2018. One of the founders’ principal objectives was to preserve and further develop the TEPLICE OPEN, which already had a substantial international history before the creation of the current club. The organization soon expanded beyond tournament management. TCC entered regional team competitions and progressed quickly through the league structure. By the 2022–2023 season, it was already fielding four teams and strengthening its junior program. Today, the club combines tournament organization with year-round chess activity. Its playing and training room on Masarykova Street operates throughout the working week, while weekends are frequently used for youth and regional competitions.

♜ Team Chess

Teplice Chess Club’s first team competed in the 2nd Czech National League during the 2025–2026 season. The squad included Czech and international players, with GM Henrik Teske producing the strongest individual result at the top of the lineup. The season proved difficult, but TCC secured its position in the league. A decisive 5–3 final-round victory over ŠK Duras Ústí nad Labem ensured survival in the competition. The team finished the season with 40.5 board points. Below the first team, TCC also participates in several levels of Ústí nad Labem regional team competition. This structure allows juniors and developing players to progress toward stronger competitive chess.

🎓 Youth Chess and Training

Youth development is now one of the club’s main priorities. TCC provides regular training for children and teenagers at its club room in Teplice and cooperates with Dům dětí a mládeže Teplice. The club organizes the Krušnohorský Rapid series for young players. The May 2026 edition was a seven-round FIDE-rated rapid tournament covering age categories from U8 through U20. TCC also operated a summer chess club for children throughout the 2026 holidays, welcoming beginners as well as experienced juniors several days each week. In addition, club players regularly compete in regional youth championships and Grand Prix events. Public outreach supports this development work. During the 2026 opening of the Teplice spa season, TCC organized chess activities and simultaneous exhibitions in the city center, using the event to introduce chess to children and families.

🌟 TEPLICE OPEN

The TEPLICE OPEN is the club’s flagship international event. The tournament predates the current organization, while Teplice Chess Club was specifically created in part to maintain its continuity and further develop it. The 19th TEPLICE OPEN took place from June 13–21, 2026 at SPORTARENA Teplice. The festival featured three classical sections — Open A, Open B, and S50+ — together with a rapid tournament. The classical competitions used a nine-round Swiss system. Open A offered CZK 50,000 for first place, while separate prize structures applied to Open B and the S50+ competition. IM Jan Vykouk of the Czech Republic produced an outstanding performance to win Open A with 8/9. Lithuanian GM Paulius Pultinevičius finished second with 7.5 points, while Canadian WGM Maili-Jade Ouellet took third with seven points. English GM Keith Arkell won the S50+ section. The festival also included a public simultaneous exhibition by American junior star Megan Althea Paragua, who scored 10–0 against selected regional opponents. The accompanying rapid tournament attracted players from seven countries.

💻 Technology and Community Chess

Teplice Chess Club has placed unusual emphasis on the use of technology in over-the-board chess. Its facilities include electronic boards, projection equipment, and digital tools for tournament broadcasting. The club has also tested CLONO electronic score sheets, including their use in league and tournament environments. In 2026, TCC continued experimenting with new methods of transmitting games digitally. At the same time, the club remains active in traditional community chess. Simultaneous exhibitions, the Teplice spa-season program, open tournaments, junior activities, camps, and cooperation with local institutions complement its competitive league program.
