♟️ Club Identity
Stavanger Sjakklubb Ungdom is a youth chess club in Stavanger, Norway. The club serves children and young people from 6 to 26 years old and gives them a friendly place to learn, play, and grow through chess. It works as an independent association with its own board and a strong volunteer culture. The club’s roots go back to Stavanger’s long tradition of youth chess from the 1970s, while its current activity reaches several schools and community venues across the city. In addition, Stavanger SKU works closely with Stavanger Sjakklubb, the adult chess club in Stavanger. This connection helps young players move from school chess and youth training toward broader club chess, weekend tournaments, and stronger national competition.
🏆 Tournament Activity
Stavanger Sjakklubb Ungdom organizes the Stavanger NGP September 2026, a Norwegian Grand Prix tournament at Tjensvoll Bydelshus. The event gives players a practical weekend format with two rapid games on Friday and four classical games across Saturday and Sunday. It includes three rating groups, cash prizes, and a clear Swiss-system structure for players of different strengths. Stavanger SKU also arranges several weekend tournaments during the year and helps members take part in tournaments across Norway. The club has organized trips to national championships and other major youth events, which gives young players valuable tournament experience outside the local area. Therefore, Stavanger SKU offers more than weekly training. It gives juniors a route into rated chess, Grand Prix events, team activity, and Norway’s wider competitive chess environment.
