♟️ About the Organizer
ŠK Šokadija, Babina Greda is a nonprofit chess club based in Babina Greda, Vukovar-Srijem County, Croatia. The present organization has operated as a registered sports club since 1998.
The club promotes chess through regular competition, team participation, junior activities, and public tournaments. It welcomes local players of different ages and experience levels. Therefore, both developing juniors and established adult competitors can represent the organization.
Matej Stojanović serves as President of ŠK Šokadija. He also works as a tournament director and coordinates the club’s main competitions, registrations, and communication with visiting players.
The club belongs to the regional chess structure in eastern Croatia. Its senior team competes in the Croatian league system and represents Babina Greda against clubs from across Vukovar-Srijem County and the wider region.
🏆 Lovrinčevo Chess Tournaments
ŠK Šokadija organizes the annual Lovrinčevo International Rapid Tournament in Babina Greda. The competition forms part of the town’s traditional summer program and has developed into a recurring international rapid event.
The tournament attracts players from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and other nearby chess communities. Participants include titled competitors, experienced club players, seniors, and juniors.
The 13th Lovrinčevo International Rapid Tournament takes place on August 2, 2026. Players complete nine Swiss-system rounds with a time control of 10 minutes plus a five-second Bronstein delay per move. The games also count toward the FIDE rapid rating.
Matej Stojanović serves as tournament director, while International Arbiter Krunoslav Lešić serves as chief arbiter. The event takes place at HDK Franjo Delić in central Babina Greda.
The club organizes Malo Lovrinčevo alongside the main competition. This separate international rapid tournament welcomes players under 16. As a result, younger participants receive their own competitive environment while remaining part of the larger chess event.
🌱 Team and Junior Chess
Team competition remains an important part of the club’s activities. ŠK Šokadija enters its senior players in regional league matches and gives members regular opportunities to play longer competitive games.
The club also supports cadet and junior participation. Young members compete in individual tournaments, regional leagues, and events organized by neighboring clubs. Moreover, the Malo Lovrinčevo tournament gives local juniors direct experience of FIDE-rated competition.
ŠK Šokadija works within a strong regional network of Croatian chess clubs. Its players regularly meet opponents from Županja, Vinkovci, Gradište, Bošnjaci, Ivankovo, Vukovar, and other communities in eastern Croatia.
Through league participation, junior development, and the Lovrinčevo tournament series, the club keeps organized chess active in Babina Greda. It also creates a welcoming meeting point for local players and visitors from the surrounding region.
