Siklósi Sakk Kör Egyesület is a chess club based in Siklós, Baranya County, Hungary. The club represents the city in organized team competition and maintains a local chess tradition extending for more than five decades. 📜 More Than Five Decades of Chess in Siklós

Siklósi Sakk Kör reached its 50th anniversary in 2020. Because of pandemic restrictions, the club postponed its formal jubilee celebration until September 2021, when the local chess community marked the milestone at Siklós Castle. The anniversary confirms a continuous local chess tradition stretching back more than half a century. During this period, Siklós players have represented the town in county competitions while the club has maintained tournament activity for players from the wider region. The Tenkes Cup has become especially important to this history. By 2026, the tournament has reached its 49th edition, demonstrating an unusually long-running tradition of organized chess competition connected with Siklós and the surrounding spa region.

♜ Baranya County Team Chess

Siklósi Sakk Kör competes in the Baranya Vármegyei Csapatbajnokság, the county team championship for clubs in Baranya. During the 2025–2026 season, Siklós fielded a team against opponents including clubs from Pécs, Komló, Szentlőrinc, Pécsvárad, and other parts of the county. The club began its season with a 5–3 victory over Szigetvári Sakk Egylet. The completed championship standings placed Siklósi Sakk Kör seventh in the eight-team first division with 21 board points. Players registered for the club during the season included Csaba Schmeizl, Ferenc Amrein, Ferenc Albrecht, and other local competitors. County competition therefore remains an important part of the club’s regular chess activity alongside its open tournament program.

🏆 Tenkes Cup International Chess Tournament

The Tenkes Cup International Chess Tournament is the flagship event associated with Siklósi Sakk Kör. The 48th edition took place from November 13–21, 2025 and attracted players representing six nations. B. Garai Lehel won the 2025 tournament. Meanwhile, Siklósi Sakk Kör player Csaba Schmeizl produced a strong home result by finishing fourth overall. The tournament also has a close relationship with the local community and tourism sector. Recent editions have received support from organizations including the Municipality of Siklós, Thermal Spa Siklós, Hotel Castello, Harkányi Gyógyfürdő, and other regional partners.

🌟 49th Tenkes Cup 2026

The 49th Tenkes Cup International Chess Tournament is scheduled for September 7–13, 2026 at the main hall of Siklósi Könyvtár, Köztársaság tér 8, Siklós. Siklósi Sakk Kör Egyesület, with Ambrus Lajos as tournament organizer, will run the event as a seven-round FIDE Swiss-system tournament. The time control is 90 minutes with a 30-second increment per move. The published prize fund is HUF 540,000, subject to a minimum field of 80 players. First prize is HUF 150,000, while additional prizes are available for women, Baranya County players, juniors under 18, senior players, and several rating categories. In addition, tournament entry provides free admission to Thermal Spa Siklós, while participants can purchase discounted admission to Harkány Spa through the organizers. The event therefore combines serious classical tournament chess with the tourism infrastructure of southern Baranya.
