♟️ About Schools Sports Group
Schools Sports Group is a school-sports organization based in Lagos, Nigeria. Its activities focus on creating competitive and developmental opportunities for young people through organized school sports. Chess is represented through the organization's All-Schools' Chess Championship (ASCC) initiative. Through ASCC, Schools Sports Group provides students with opportunities to represent their schools, gain competitive experience, and develop skills such as concentration, decision-making, discipline, and preparation. The initiative combines tournament play with player development and broader educational activities. The organization also operates the official ASCC digital platform. It brings together tournament information, participant registration, preparation resources, news, and inter-school chess activities in one place for students, parents, schools, and participating teams.🏆 All-Schools' Chess Championship
The All-Schools' Chess Championship is the principal chess initiative associated with Schools Sports Group. The 2026 Lagos championship uses a multi-stage structure. Players first participate in District Finals across six districts, after which successful participants advance to the State Finals. The Main Competition features separate male and female Under-18 categories in Rapid, Blitz, and Bullet chess. In addition, the program includes invitational exhibition activities such as Sans Voir and a Blindfold Simul. The championship advertises more than ₦10 million in cash and kind prizes. Student medals, school trophies, refreshments, networking activities, a career talk, and an interactive press booth are also included in the wider program.🌱 School Chess & Player Development
Schools Sports Group places preparation alongside competition. The 2026 championship includes a Team Incubation period before the District Finals. During this stage, students and school teams can prepare for the competitive program. The ASCC platform also provides preparation resources covering openings, tactics, endgames, game analysis, opponent preparation, and tournament rules. This approach allows students to use the championship not only as a competitive event but also as an opportunity to develop their chess skills before playing.🤝 Inter-School Chess Activities
Schools Sports Group also supports inter-school chess competition in Lagos. The ASCC platform publishes school-versus-school fixtures and playing locations, allowing students to gain competitive experience outside the main championship stages. Schools appearing in published activities include International School Lagos, King's College Lagos, Igbobi College, Lagos City College, FCE Staff School, and Ajayi Crowther Memorial. These matches help create a broader school chess environment and provide students with additional opportunities to compete before larger championship events.📚 Development of the ASCC Platform
The dedicated ASCC digital platform was launched in August 2026. It combines participant registration, championship information, news, preparation resources, and inter-school fixtures. Students can also select their preferred tournament category through the online registration system. The registration platform currently includes Rapid, Blitz, Bullet Chess, and Exhibition among the available category choices. By combining tournament management with player preparation and school activities, Schools Sports Group is developing ASCC as a wider school chess program rather than only a single annual tournament.
