Schachverein 1947 Walldorf

♟️ About the Organizer

Schachverein 1947 Walldorf e.V. is an established chess club based in Walldorf, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The organization was founded in 1947 and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022.

The club welcomes children, adults, beginners, recreational players, and experienced tournament competitors. Members can attend weekly training, play informal games, enter internal tournaments, and represent Walldorf in regional and national team competitions.

Peter Schell serves as the club’s Chairman. He works with a committee responsible for tournament chess, junior development, finances, communications, and the club’s competitive teams. Carlos Hauser leads the youth section, while Fabian Fichter serves as Tournament Director.

Regular Friday club evenings take place at the Hillesheim-Scheune in Walldorf. Junior training runs in several groups before the main adult session. Therefore, younger players can progress from beginner instruction to more advanced competitive training.

🏆 Tournaments and Team Chess

Team chess forms a major part of the club’s activities. During the 2025–2026 season, Schachverein Walldorf entered eight adult teams across national, Baden, and Heidelberg district competitions.

The first team competed in the 2. Bundesliga Süd, while the second team played in the Oberliga. Additional teams participated in the Landesliga, Bereichsklasse, Bezirksklasse, and several district divisions. As a result, members of different playing strengths can find suitable team competition.

The club also enters teams in youth leagues, senior competitions, and knockout cups. In addition, Walldorf regularly hosts league matches and regional championships at the Astoria-Halle.

In September 2026, the organization launches the first Walldorfer Schachopen. The tournament includes separate A and B sections and takes place over seven Swiss-system rounds. The A-Open welcomes players of all ratings, while the B-Open provides a more suitable field for lower-rated participants.

Games use a classical time control and count toward the applicable German or international rating. Moreover, the tournament offers general prizes and reduced entry fees for junior players.

The club also organizes internal competitions throughout the year. These include the Walldorf Club Championship, monthly blitz tournaments, rapid events, cup competitions, and seasonal tournaments.

🌱 Junior Chess and Club Development

Youth development remains one of the club’s main priorities. Schachverein Walldorf offers separate Friday training groups for beginners and more advanced juniors.

Young members regularly participate in district, Baden, and German championships. In 2026, several Walldorf players qualified for the German Youth Individual Championships. The club also hosted the Baden team championships for the U12, U14, and U16 age groups.

Junior players can progress from introductory lessons to rated tournaments and team competition. Meanwhile, regular reports on the club website allow families to follow results, upcoming events, and qualification achievements.

The organization combines ambitious competitive chess with an accessible local club environment. Beginners can learn the game step by step. At the same time, stronger players can compete in national leagues and major individual championships.

Through weekly training, eight adult teams, junior development, and the new Walldorfer Schachopen, Schachverein 1947 Walldorf continues to support chess in Walldorf and the wider Heidelberg region.
