Schachverein 1934 Frankfurt am Main-Griesheim e.V., commonly known as SV Frankfurt-Griesheim 1934, is an established chess club based in the Griesheim district of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Founded in 1934, the organization provides regular chess activities for children, teenagers, adult club players, beginners, and experienced competitors.

The club operates from Café Raumvorteil on Alt Griesheim. Members and visitors can attend training sessions, friendly games, internal competitions, tournament preparation, and general club evenings. The organization welcomes guests who want to discover the club before becoming members.

SV Frankfurt-Griesheim views chess as both a competitive sport and a cultural activity. Its guiding principles emphasize inclusion, fairness, respect, personal responsibility, and teamwork. Therefore, the club aims to develop not only playing strength but also responsible and supportive behavior within its community.

🎓 Youth Chess and School Partnerships

Youth development forms a major part of the club’s program. SV Frankfurt-Griesheim offers dedicated chess courses for children, separate youth playing evenings, and additional training for players who want to compete at a higher level.

Beginners learn through a structured step-by-step training method. Meanwhile, improving juniors work on tactics, calculation, strategy, game analysis, and practical tournament skills. The coaching team includes qualified trainers and experienced competitive players.

The club also maintains an extensive school chess program in Frankfurt. Its coaches lead chess groups at several primary and secondary schools across the city. These partnerships introduce children to organized chess and create a pathway from school activities to regular club training.

The school program has produced strong competitive results, including Hessian school championship titles and several appearances at German school team championships. In addition, club juniors regularly compete in regional, Hessian, and German individual and team events.

🏆 Tournaments and Competitive Chess

SV Frankfurt-Griesheim participates in organized team chess within the Frankfurt and Hessian league systems. Its members also enter individual standard, rapid, and blitz competitions throughout Germany.

The club runs internal tournaments and a regular FIDE-rated monthly blitz series. Depending on participation, the monthly competition uses a single or double round-robin format. This gives members and visiting players frequent access to internationally rated blitz chess.

Tournament organization is another important part of the club’s activities. SV Frankfurt-Griesheim has supported Hessian championships and other major chess events held in western Frankfurt. The club provides local organization, playing facilities, equipment, and practical assistance in cooperation with regional chess authorities.

In August 2026, the club hosts two major state-level events at SAALBAU Griesheim. The Open Hessian Individual Blitz Championship takes place on August 22, followed by the International Hessian Rapid Chess Championship – Werner-Adolar-Falck Memorial on August 23.

The rapid championship is organized for the Hessischer Schachverband and welcomes players from inside and outside Hesse. It offers FIDE-rated rapid chess, the International Hessian Rapid Champion title, cash prizes, and qualification opportunities for eligible Hessian players.

Through its youth program, school partnerships, regular club activity, team participation, rated tournaments, and regional championships, SV Frankfurt-Griesheim continues to support chess development across Frankfurt am Main.
