Schachverein 1934 Frankfurt am Main-Griesheim e.V., commonly known as SV 1934 Ffm-Griesheim, is a chess club based in the Griesheim district of Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany. Founded in 1934, the organization provides competitive and recreational chess for children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. Its permanent playing venue is Café Raumvorteil on Alt Griesheim, where the club holds training sessions, youth activities, internal tournaments, and regular club evenings. Youth development is particularly important to the club. Current federation records list 82 registered members, including 59 players aged 18 or younger. SV Frankfurt-Griesheim traces its history to 1934 and has maintained organized chess activity in western Frankfurt for generations. Its program has changed considerably over time, particularly as youth chess and school partnerships became increasingly important. A significant organizational change took place ahead of the 2025–2026 season. In March 2025, Schachbezirk 5 Frankfurt formally accepted SV 1934 Frankfurt-Griesheim into its competition structure. Approximately four Griesheim teams were incorporated into the district leagues according to playing strength. The first team subsequently competed in the Frankfurt Bezirksoberliga, while additional teams entered lower district divisions. This structure gives both experienced competitors and developing players regular opportunities to represent the club in classical team chess. The club also remains active in individual tournaments throughout Hesse and Germany. Several Griesheim players compete regularly in Frankfurt championships, Hessian events, national youth tournaments, and major German Opens.

🎓 Youth Chess and School Programs

SV Frankfurt-Griesheim maintains one of its strongest programs in junior chess. Weekly activities include dedicated children’s courses on Wednesdays and Sundays, youth sessions on Thursdays and Fridays, and individual training for players who want more intensive preparation. The current coaching group includes Ralph Blum, Wolf Machowitsch, Reamonn Leitzig, Michael Scheerer, and David Dolidze. Blum holds a German Chess Federation B-Trainer license and has worked extensively in both club and school chess. The organization also operates chess groups at several Frankfurt schools, including Goethe-Gymnasium, Emma-Kann-Grundschule, Gymnasium Süd, Georg-Büchner-Schule, and Günderrodeschule. The club organizes a regular Monatsblitz series throughout the year. Each monthly event counts toward an annual standings competition and is played under FIDE blitz rules. The time control is 3 minutes + 2 seconds per move. Depending on the number of participants, the tournament uses either a single round-robin or a double round-robin format. The 2026 series has attracted players from Frankfurt as well as clubs in Bad Homburg, Oberursel, Bad Nauheim, Kassel, and other parts of Hesse. David Dolidze won the August edition with a perfect score, while Maximilian Steigleder won the July tournament ahead of a 15-player field. Further 2026 editions are scheduled during the autumn, allowing both members and visiting players to compete regularly for FIDE Blitz rating points.

🏆 Hessian Championships in Frankfurt-Griesheim 2026

SV Frankfurt-Griesheim hosted two major Hessian competitions over the weekend of August 22–23, 2026 at SAALBAU Griesheim. The Open Hessian Individual Blitz Championship took place on August 22. Players contested 15 rounds at 3+2, with the competition determining the 2026 Hessian blitz champion and providing qualification opportunities for the German championship. The following day, the club hosted the International Hessian Rapid Chess Championship – Werner-Adolar-Falck Memorial. This tournament consisted of nine rounds at 15 minutes + 5 seconds per move and was open to players from inside and outside Hesse. The rapid championship offered the title of International Hessian Rapid Champion together with cash and rating prizes. Moreover, eligible Hessian players competed for qualification places connected with the German Rapid Championship. Hosting these two state-level competitions underlines the club’s role beyond normal league chess. Together with its monthly rated tournaments, school program, and large junior section, SV Frankfurt-Griesheim maintains a varied chess program across competitive and developmental levels.
