♟️ About Schachfreunde Deizisau e.V.
Schachfreunde Deizisau e.V. (SF Deizisau) is a chess club based in Deizisau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The club combines international tournament organization, team chess, women’s chess, junior development, school chess, training, and regular local club activity. Its primary clubroom is in the Altes Rathaus, Marktstraße 1, 73779 Deizisau. Seventeen chess enthusiasts founded the club on March 11, 1948, at the Gasthaus zur Linde. Albert Bantel, Ferdinand Bantel, and the club’s first chairman, Wenzel Wiesner, played central roles in establishing the new organization. Moreover, youth development started early. By 1952, Deizisau already had a junior team, which won the district youth team championship in its first year. Sven Noppes currently serves as Chairman of Schachfreunde Deizisau. The club’s current board also includes Deputy Chairman Tim Zacke, Tournament Director Anzhelika Valkova, Youth Director Simona Gheng, Treasurer Marina Noppes, and Secretary Eric Gustain. Noppes is also an experienced tournament organizer and FIDE Arbiter. In addition, he serves as Tournament Director of the International Deizisauer Herbstopen and remains the principal public contact for major Deizisau chess events.🏆 International Tournaments and the Deizisauer Herbstopen
Tournament organization has become one of the defining features of Schachfreunde Deizisau. The club launched the International Deizisauer Herbstopen in 2006 after identifying an opportunity to create a substantial classical tournament during the Baden-Württemberg autumn school holidays. The tournament developed into a recurring event at the Gemeindehalle Deizisau. In 2025, the 19th edition attracted a record 304 players. Consequently, the tournament reached a new participation high just before its 20th anniversary. The 20. International Deizisauer Herbstopen takes place from October 23–26, 2026. Players compete over seven Swiss-system rounds with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move. The organizer offers three sections: an open A tournament, a B section for players below 1900 DWZ, and a C section for players below 1650 DWZ. Moreover, the 2026 Herbstopen forms part of the Chess Tigers Gold Tour. The tournament therefore connects Deizisau’s established open tradition with a wider series of German chess events.🌍 Neckar-Open and International Tournament Tradition
The club’s experience with large tournaments extends much further than the Herbstopen. Schachfreunde Deizisau organized the International Neckar-Open for many years, building one of Germany’s best-known open tournament traditions. Participation increased rapidly as the tournament developed. The 2012 Neckar-Open attracted 764 players, a club record that demonstrated the scale of the organization behind the event. The tournament brought Grandmasters, developing juniors, club players, and international visitors to Deizisau. The club revived the Neckar-Open in 2023 after several years without the traditional Deizisau edition. Meanwhile, the Herbstopen continued to provide a second major classical tournament in the municipality. These events require much more than tournament direction. Club members contribute to registration, playing-hall preparation, catering, accommodation coordination, results management, technical support, and player services. Therefore, tournament organization has become a collective part of club life.♜ Team Chess and Competitive Achievements
Schachfreunde Deizisau has also achieved major results in German and European team chess. The club won the German Team Cup in 2016 and later added another national cup success. In 2021, Deizisau won the European Online Chess Club Cup. The team finished the final stage with 14 match points, ahead of Clichy Échecs 92. This result added a European club title to the association’s competitive record. For many seasons, the club also competed in the German Chess Bundesliga with a squad that included numerous Grandmasters and leading German players. During the 2025/26 season, Deizisau finished fifth after winning its final three matches. However, the club decided to withdraw its men’s team from the Bundesliga for the 2026/27 season and redirect resources toward other areas of activity. At the same time, top-level women’s chess remains part of the club. The Schachfreunde Deizisau women’s team continues in the Frauenbundesliga in 2026/27, with a roster that includes several internationally titled players.🎓 Youth Chess, Training and School Development
Youth development has been part of Schachfreunde Deizisau since the club’s early years. Today, regular junior training takes place on Fridays from 18:30 to 20:00 at the Altes Rathaus. The general club evening follows from 20:00. The current youth structure is led by Simona Gheng, supported by the club’s youth committee. Training gives younger players opportunities to learn the game, improve their tournament skills, and progress toward team competition. In addition, SF Deizisau has a long tradition of school chess. The club has repeatedly organized the Open Baden-Württemberg School Chess Cup in cooperation with regional chess organizations and supporting partners. The 2026 School Chess Cup attracted 99 school teams from Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Thirty teams competed in the primary-school tournament, while 69 entered the general section. Consequently, hundreds of children played chess simultaneously in Deizisau. Sven Noppes again directed the event, while the club worked with the Baden and Württemberg chess youth organizations, Schachzentrum Baden-Baden, Chess Tigers, and local partners.🤝 Club Life and Chess in Deizisau
The club’s regular activities take place in the attic of the Altes Rathaus Deizisau. A second playing room at Kelterhof 13 provides additional space when several home matches take place simultaneously. Friday remains the main club evening. Junior instruction comes first, followed by adult and open club play. Moreover, members participate in internal tournaments, league matches, training sessions, and special chess events. Schachfreunde Deizisau also maintains a strong connection with the municipality. Over several decades, the club has brought thousands of visiting chess players to Deizisau through its tournaments and championship events. Therefore, SF Deizisau combines the structure of a local community chess club with experience in large international events, elite team competition, school chess, and junior development.
