♟️ About Schachclub Reichenbach e.V.

Schachclub Reichenbach e.V. is a chess club based in Reichenbach im Vogtland, Saxony, Germany. The club belongs to the Schachverband Sachsen and competes within the Chemnitz regional chess structure. Its regular playing venues include Dittesschule Reichenbach and the Haus der Vereine, where members take part in training, league matches, youth chess, and other club activities. Youth development is one of the clearest features of the organization. Current Saxon federation records list 38 members, including 24 players aged 18 or younger. The club therefore maintains a particularly young competitive base. In addition, Reichenbach fields adult and junior teams, participates in Saxon league competition, and sends developing players to regional U12 and DWZ tournaments. Jan-Niklas Phenn is the current federation-listed official contact and serves as 2nd Chairman of Schachclub Reichenbach. He is also the principal organizer of the Reichenbacher Einladungsturnier, the club’s flagship classical competition. The fourth edition took place from August 7–9, 2026, bringing Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, strong regional competitors, and ambitious juniors to Reichenbach.

♜ Team Chess and Competitive Activity

Schachclub Reichenbach maintains several levels of competitive team chess. During the 2025–2026 season, the first team competed in Landesklasse B, one of the principal state-level divisions administered by the Schachverband Sachsen. Reichenbach finished the season in fifth place. Its opponents included SF Fortuna Leipzig, SK König Plauen II, Muldental Wilkau-Haßlau, SV Eiche Reichenbrand II, and other established Saxon teams. The second team competed in the 2. Bezirksklasse C of the Chemnitz chess region. This additional team gives developing players and club members who are not yet part of the Landesklasse squad regular competitive opportunities. The club also entered junior team competition during the 2025–2026 season. Its U10 team participated in the Saxon youth team championship qualifying structure. Therefore, younger players can move directly from club training into official federation competition.

🎓 Youth Chess and Player Development

Schachclub Reichenbach has a strong youth profile compared with its overall membership. Current federation records show that well over half of the club’s registered players are children or teenagers. Sascha Strobel serves as Youth Director and is also involved in junior team competition. Regular youth chess provides players with preparation for local, regional, and state-level events. Reichenbach juniors remain active in the Vogtland tournament circuit. During the opening U12/DWZ-Cup of the 2026–2027 season in August 2026, numerous players represented Schachclub Reichenbach across the tournament groups. These included Tim Jeschonneck, Magnus and Malte Schwan, Jorma Bössel, Tristan Rennwanz, Jacob Könitzer, Mykhailo Zhezhera, Lilly Jeschonneck, Mattis Scholz, Anton Kautz, and other developing players. This depth gives the club an important role in youth chess around Reichenbach im Vogtland. Moreover, young competitors can progress from training and junior events toward adult team competition and stronger individual tournaments.

🏆 Reichenbacher Einladungsturnier

The Reichenbacher Einladungsturnier has developed into the club’s principal tournament project. Unlike a conventional unrestricted Open, it uses a deliberately limited field designed to create a strong and competitive weekend tournament. The 4th Reichenbacher Einladungsturnier took place from August 7–9, 2026 at Goethe-Gymnasium Reichenbach, Schulteil Friedensschule. The field was limited to 40 players and included several titled competitors. Players contested five Swiss-system rounds. The classical time control was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 15 minutes for the remainder of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one. The organizers announced €1,640 in cash prizes. Jan-Niklas Phenn served as organizer, while Burkhard Atze was Chief Arbiter and Mario Kratzer Deputy Chief Arbiter. GM Roven Vogel won the 2026 tournament. Local Schachclub Reichenbach player Edwin Fischer produced an excellent result and finished second after becoming the only competitor to take half a point from Vogel. IM Ferenc Langheinrich and GM Thomas Pähtz followed in the standings. The series has now established a recognizable competitive identity. IM Ferenc Langheinrich won the 2024 edition, while GM Michael Richter won in 2025. Consequently, the tournament gives Reichenbach players an unusual opportunity to compete locally against titled and experienced opposition.

🏠 Club Life in Reichenbach

The club uses Dittesschule Reichenbach and the Haus der Vereine as its principal federation-listed playing locations. The Dittesschule has also served as a regular training base. Friday traditionally forms the main club evening, with youth activity preceding the adult session. This structure allows families and junior players to participate before the later adult program begins. Alongside formal competition, the club promotes social chess and community activity. Its combination of a young membership, multiple league teams, regular training, and a strong annual invitation tournament gives Schachclub Reichenbach an active role in the chess life of the Vogtland region.
