♟️ About the Organizer

Schachclub Lindau (B) e.V. is an established chess club based in Lindau on Lake Constance, Germany. The organization was founded in 1921 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021.

The club belongs to the Oberschwaben Chess District within the Württemberg Chess Federation. It welcomes players of different ages and strengths, including beginners, junior players, experienced club competitors, and guests interested in discovering organized chess.

Thomas Jäckel serves as the club’s chairman. Together with the wider committee, trainers, and team captains, he coordinates the club’s administration, league participation, tournaments, and regular activities.

Since 2022, the club has held its weekly meetings at the ESV-Heim in Lindau. Youth training begins before the main club evening, which gives younger members a structured route into regular adult club chess.

🏆 Tournaments and Team Chess

Schachclub Lindau participates actively in regional team competitions. During the 2025–2026 season, the organization entered two adult teams in competitions administered by the Württemberg Chess Federation and the Oberschwaben Chess District.

Home league matches normally take place at the Bodensee-Gymnasium Lindau. The club also participates in cup competitions and individual championships held across the region.

In 2026, the organization launches the Lindauer Inselcup, a new rapid chess tournament held at the Inselhalle on Lindau Island. The event offers seven Swiss-system rounds with a time control of 15 minutes plus five seconds per move.

The first edition takes place on September 12, 2026. It welcomes players of different strengths and includes general, youth, and senior prizes. Martin Zebandt serves as tournament director and arbiter, while Thomas Jäckel manages advance registrations.

The tournament combines competitive chess with Lindau’s distinctive location on Lake Constance. Therefore, it provides an attractive event for players from southern Germany and the neighboring chess communities of Austria and Switzerland.

🌱 Youth Chess and Club Activities

Youth development forms an important part of the club’s program. The organization offers weekly training for developing junior players at its ESV-Heim venue.

The club also supports a chess course at Bodensee-Gymnasium Lindau. Mike Montgomery leads the school program, which focuses primarily on beginners. More advanced juniors can continue their training during the club’s regular evening sessions.

Young members can represent Schachclub Lindau in junior leagues, individual championships, school competitions, and regional tournament series. These activities allow players to gain experience gradually before entering stronger adult competitions.

The regular club evening provides opportunities for casual games, training, game analysis, and internal competition. Guests may attend and meet club members before deciding whether to join.

Through more than a century of activity, Schachclub Lindau has maintained an active chess community near the German, Austrian, and Swiss borders. Its combination of junior training, team competition, weekly club life, and public tournaments continues to support chess development in Lindau and the wider Lake Constance region.
