♟️ About Schachclub Bopfingen e.V.
Schachclub Bopfingen e.V. is an active chess club based in Bopfingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The organization provides regular competitive and recreational chess for adults and juniors while representing Bopfingen in the regional league structure of the Schachverband Württemberg. The club combines traditional league chess with training, tournaments, youth development, and community activities. Junior training takes place every Thursday from 18:30 to 19:30, while adult players meet from 19:30 onward. Moreover, the club actively welcomes newcomers who want to learn chess or move from online play into over-the-board competition. In recent years, Schachclub Bopfingen has entered a period of renewed growth. Membership and club activities have expanded, while a younger leadership team has introduced new events and partnerships. Consequently, the organization has strengthened both its sporting program and its presence within the Bopfingen community.🏆 Tournaments and Chess Activities
One of the club's major new projects is the Bopfinger Schachtag mit Ipf-Turnier. Chairman Mario Bossert developed the concept to bring chess to a wider audience and, in particular, to reach people who enjoy chess but have not previously joined a club. The first Bopfinger Schachtag in November 2025 featured renowned Grandmaster Artur Jussupow as its special guest. Alongside the main rapid tournament, the event offered chess activities designed to connect club players, casual players, juniors, and visitors. Schachclub Bopfingen continues the project with the 2. Bopfinger Schachtag mit Ipf-Turnier 2026 on November 21, 2026. This edition includes a free morning chess program with FM Tobias Kolb, followed by a seven-round rapid tournament for up to 80 players. In addition, the club organizes the Reinhold-Goller-Gedächtnisturnier, a memorial rapid tournament dedicated to Reinhold Goller. The event honors one of the key figures responsible for restoring organized chess in Bopfingen during the 1980s.🎓 Youth Chess and Community Development
Youth development forms an important part of the club's current strategy. Schachclub Bopfingen provides dedicated weekly junior training and works to attract more children and teenagers to organized chess. The organization has also started building stronger connections with local schools. Following the first Bopfinger Schachtag, the club donated €250 from its tournament raffle to the Staufer-Schule in Bopfingen. Furthermore, the two organizations began working toward establishing a chess activity group at the school. Beyond chess competitions, club members regularly participate in community events. These activities include the traditional Bopfinger Heimattage, the Ipfmess festival procession, club excursions, fundraising projects, and other local initiatives. Therefore, the club's role extends beyond league matches and tournaments. It also uses chess as a way to strengthen community participation and introduce new generations to the game.📜 History and Development
Organized chess in Bopfingen has roots going back to 1947. During the following decades, local players met in several venues around the town. However, activity eventually declined because of changing membership and difficulties securing suitable playing facilities. Reinhold Goller played a decisive role in reviving the club, and on December 12, 1984, Schachclub Bopfingen e.V. was formally re-established. Goller became its first chairman, while the Hotel Sonne initially served as the playing venue. The club celebrated the 40th anniversary of its re-establishment in December 2024. During the anniversary, members recognized Reinhold Goller's contribution to the organization's development and honored his legacy. A new chapter began in April 2024, when Mario Bossert became 1st Chairman. The club subsequently expanded its management team, moved into a new club venue, developed a new website, and introduced additional public activities. By 2026, the organization reported rising membership, improving finances, and an expanding range of activities. Moreover, the existing board received another two-year mandate at the April 2026 general meeting. The club therefore continues to combine its long local history with an increasingly ambitious program for the future.
