♟️ Club Identity
Schach – Rheinfelden e.V. is a chess club in Rheinfelden (Baden), Germany. The club focuses on league chess and recreational chess in the Upper Rhine region. Its regular playing venue is Bürger-Café Gambrinus on Friedrichstraße 6, where members meet for chess, analysis, training, and social play. The club meets on Sundays and Thursdays, which gives local players two weekly entry points into club activity. In addition, Schach – Rheinfelden e.V. belongs to the Badischer Schachverband and the Badischer Sportbund. This gives players a clear link from local chess to organized Baden team competition and German federation chess.
🏆 Tournament Activity
Schach – Rheinfelden e.V. organizes the International Standard-Open Rheinfelden, a FIDE-rated classical tournament in Rheinfelden (Baden). The 2026 edition is the 20th International Standard-Open Rheinfelden and takes place from September 11 to 13, 2026, at Campus Rheinfelden. The event uses five rounds, a 90 minutes plus 30 seconds time control, Swiss pairings, FIDE rules, FIDE Elo rating, and national DWZ rating. The club also promotes open chess beyond Rheinfelden through its Ascona amateur standard tournament activity. Therefore, players can find both local club chess and international open events through the same organizer. The club’s tournament program suits ambitious amateurs, returning adults, youth players, and international visitors who want serious classical chess in a friendly cross-border setting.
🌱 Youth Chess and Community Activity
Schach – Rheinfelden e.V. supports youth chess and community chess through club sessions, partner-led instruction, school chess activity, and tournament visits. Young players train with support from Schach-Freunde Pelikan, where they practice basic moves, tactical ideas, and creative over-the-board play. The club also connects juniors with the Aargauer Jugend-Grand-Prix through Swiss partner activity. In addition, Schach – Rheinfelden e.V. runs chess groups for schools, including Freie Waldorfschule Schopfheim, Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium Rheinfelden, and Christian-Heinrich-Zeller-Schule Karsau. This cross-border network gives juniors a practical chess pathway from school activity to club play and tournament chess. Moreover, the club welcomes players of different ages and levels through its public chess calendar, regular meetings, and accessible playing venue. As a result, it keeps chess visible and active on the German side of the Rheinfelden twin-town area.
