Schach Landesverband Oberösterreich, officially Landesverband Oberösterreich des Österreichischen Schachbundes, is the regional governing organization for organized chess in Upper Austria. The federation represents chess clubs throughout the federal state and coordinates championships, team leagues, ratings, tournament regulations, youth development, school chess, arbitration, training, and cooperation with the Austrian Chess Federation. 🏆 Upper Austrian State Championships

The federation is responsible for the official Upper Austrian State Championships – Oberösterreichische Landesmeisterschaften. Championship titles are awarded in several disciplines, including classical chess, rapid chess, blitz, youth categories, senior competition, and team events. In 2026, the Upper Austrian Classical Championship was integrated into the Oberbank Challenger Open in Linz, which took place from August 15–23 at the Oberbank Forum. This arrangement gave eligible Upper Austrian competitors an opportunity to contest the regional title within a strong international tournament environment. The same week also featured the Austrian National Championships in Linz, turning the Oberbank venue into one of the major centers of Austrian chess during August 2026.

🎓 Youth Chess and Development

Upper Austrian clubs provide extensive junior training, while the Landesverband coordinates regional championships, the Schülerliga, youth leagues, training programs, and the Upper Austrian youth squad. More than 50 teams competed in the lower-secondary section alone, while qualifying tournaments were required because demand exceeded the available places. Leading schools advance to Austria’s national school chess finals. In August 2026, Linz hosted the Austrian National Championships alongside the Oberbank Open and Challenger competition. The event brought leading Austrian players to the Oberbank Donauforum. The regional federation supported the championship together with the Austrian Chess Federation and its partners.
