Schaakkring Brasschaat

Schaakkring Brasschaat is a chess club in Brasschaat, Antwerp, Belgium. It runs its public activity under the name Brasschaak. The club plays from the GIB school complex on Door Verstraetelei 50. Adults meet on Friday evenings, and the youth section meets on Sunday mornings. The same venue also hosts much of the club’s regular public activity. Members can choose between internal club play and external team competition. The club also welcomes new players and experienced competitors. Adult beginners can join introductory lessons during the year. In addition, the official site publishes news, calendars, results, and specialized blogs. This steady weekly structure gives Schaakkring Brasschaat a strong local base and a visible place in Belgian club chess.

Schaakkring Brasschaat combines training, club competition, and youth development. The official club information lists four internal competitions: the club championship, an alternative tournament, a blitz championship, and a rapid championship. The club also enters external events such as Interclub and Zilveren Toren. Its youth section is especially developed. The 2025 youth folder shows Sunday training from September to June, small groups of up to 12 students, and the Stappenmethode. A team of 10 instructors supports this work, while Kevin Leenaerts and Mark De Smedt guide the youth section. The youth section also guides players toward step tournaments and the Flemish youth circuit. This structure helps young players move from basic lessons to stronger competitive play and regular youth events.

The club also has a strong tournament identity through Open Brasschaat, its annual summer open. The official tournament page describes it as a large international event. It attracts players from Belgium and neighboring countries, including titled players. In 2025, the participant list on the club site included 24 members from Brasschaat itself. The club site describes the open as a well-known event and highlights strong home participation each year. The public organizer team for the open includes Dave Remijsen, Guy Baete, Bernadette Tercken, and Jan Demarré. Schaakkring Brasschaat also appears in Belgian championship history through Michel Jadoul’s 1990 national title under the club name. That mix of youth work, team chess, and visible tournament organization makes Schaakkring Brasschaat one of the notable chess clubs in the Antwerp area.
