Šahovski klub Radnički Kovin
♟️ About Šahovski klub Radnički Kovin
Šahovski klub Radnički Kovin is an established chess organization based in Kovin, Serbia. The club officially began operations in 1998. Since then, it has supported league chess, local competitions, youth activities, and internationally rated tournaments. Moreover, its members represent Kovin in regional and national team events.
The club welcomes experienced competitors, developing players, juniors, and recreational chess enthusiasts. It also provides a local structure for regular practice and tournament participation. Therefore, players can progress from community events to serious FIDE-rated competition within the same organization.
Saša Vojinović represents the club and directs its major international tournaments. Meanwhile, Gojko Rolić supports its chess development work and has served as a youth coach. Together with arbiters, players, volunteers, and local partners, they maintain an active program in Kovin and nearby communities.
🏆 International Tournaments and Competitive Activity
Šahovski klub Radnički Kovin organizes classical opens, round-robin tournaments, rapid events, and memorial competitions. Its recent program has expanded significantly. Consequently, the club now attracts players from Serbia and many other national federations.
In 2025, the club served as technical organizer of a major international open in Kovin. The tournament welcomed around 60 players from approximately 20 countries. Moreover, the organizers offered a prize fund of RSD 380,000. The event gave Kovin one of its most significant international chess competitions in recent years.
The club now runs several IM, FM, and CM round-robin tournaments. Each competition normally features ten players and nine Berger-system rounds. In addition, the organizer builds suitable rating averages for title-norm opportunities. Qualified international arbiters supervise the games, while the club provides the necessary playing equipment.
Its 2026 program includes several tournament periods during February, March, May, June, and September. The schedule combines International Master and FIDE Master groups with Candidate Master events when appropriate. Furthermore, the club applies FIDE anti-cheating regulations and helps visiting players arrange local accommodation and transport from Belgrade Airport.
The organization also supports memorial chess. For example, its February 2026 program included the Mijodrag Ratković Memorial Rapid Tournament in Mramorak. Therefore, the club’s calendar combines title-oriented international events with competitions that preserve local chess history.
🤝 Team Chess and Club Development
Team competition forms another important part of the club’s identity. Radnički Kovin has represented the town in the Banat South league structure for many seasons. Its players compete together against clubs from Pančevo, Vršac, Kovačica, Aradac, Melenci, and other communities across Vojvodina.
The club achieved a historic result in 2025. It won promotion to the Second League of Serbia for the first time in its long competitive history. As a result, Radnički Kovin became the only sports organization from the Municipality of Kovin scheduled to compete at that national level.
This achievement reflected the club’s growing competitive strength. Moreover, league chess gives local players regular experience against strong regional opposition. Members can develop teamwork, match discipline, and practical decision-making while representing their community.
The club also works with local cultural institutions, host venues, sponsors, and private supporters. For example, it has cooperated with the Kovin Cultural Centre and venues in Mramorak. In addition, the Ratković family supported the club’s large 2025 international tournament. These partnerships help the organization deliver larger and more ambitious chess events.
🎓 Youth Chess and Community Engagement
Youth chess development has formed part of Radnički Kovin’s program for several years. The club has operated a chess school and organized local competitions for younger players. Therefore, children can learn the rules, practise regularly, and gain their first tournament experience within their own municipality.
The club has also organized the Preobraženje Children’s Chess Tournament with the Kovin Cultural Centre. The event welcomed preschool children and primary-school students. Moreover, organizers created separate age categories for boys and girls. This structure gave young players suitable opponents and encouraged broader participation.
Youth events focus on more than results. They encourage children to enjoy chess, meet other players, and develop a lasting interest in the game. In addition, tournament play strengthens concentration, patience, logical thinking, and sporting behaviour.
Through international norm tournaments, team competition, memorial events, youth chess, and community partnerships, Šahovski klub Radnički Kovin continues to expand its role. Above all, the club connects local chess development with increasingly international competitive opportunities.
