♟️ About ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare
ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare, formally Asociația Club Sportiv de Șah Someș Satu Mare, is a chess association from Satu Mare, Romania. The association focuses strongly on tournament organization and regularly works with established chess clubs and sporting institutions. Moreover, competitions involving ACS Șah Someș frequently count for both FIDE and Romanian Chess Federation rating. By 2024, ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare had become a named organizer of several established competitions in the region. That year, it joined C.S. Voința Satu Mare in organizing the 11th Cupa Orașului Tășnad. It also became involved in the Petra Chess Weekend series. Since then, the association has continued to broaden its tournament partnerships while retaining fiscal code 49519745 in official competition documents. For tournament operations, FIDE International Organizer Ciprian-Sorin Muntean is the association’s principal published contact. He has directed several events involving ACS Șah Someș and handles public registration enquiries for major tournaments. In addition, his role connects the association with long-running chess activities in Satu Mare County and with tournaments elsewhere in Romania.🏆 Tournament Organization and Competitive Activity
Tournament organization forms a major part of the public activity of ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare. The association works through partnerships rather than limiting its program to one tournament series. As a result, its name appears across classical events for different rating groups and age categories. The association has co-organized editions of the Petra Chess Weekend together with A.C.S. Petra-Șah Satu Mare and C.S. Voința Satu Mare. For example, the 36th edition in October 2024 and the 42nd edition in June 2025 both listed ACS Someș Șah Satu Mare among the organizers. These tournaments included nationally and internationally rated competition. In 2026, the association also joined CSM Olimpia Satu Mare and Șah în Școală in organizing the Open section of the Festivalul Internațional de Șah Satu Mare. The August 2026 event used a seven-round Swiss format and counted for national and international rating. Meanwhile, Ciprian-Sorin Muntean served as Tournament Director.🌟 Cupa Orașului Tășnad – Memorialul Andrei Veron
The Cupa Orașului Tășnad represents one of the association’s most important recurring projects. The tournament series dates back to 2013, although its organizing structure has evolved over time. Earlier editions were closely associated with C.S. Voința Satu Mare and local public partners. However, ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare had joined the official organizing team by the 11th edition in 2024. The association remained an organizer for the 12th edition in 2025, alongside C.S. Voința Satu Mare and with support from Primăria Orașului Tășnad. The tournament’s advance entry payments also went directly through ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare. Therefore, the association has both an organizational and administrative role in the modern editions of the competition. For 2026, the organizing structure changed again. The official prospectus names ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare and CSM Olimpia Satu Mare as the organizers, with support from Primăria Orașului Tășnad. The 13th edition carries the extended title Cupa Orașului Tășnad – Memorialul Andrei Veron. The official prospectus schedules the tournament for October 29–31, 2026 at Ștrandul Termal Tășnad. Players compete in an Under-2300 seven-round Swiss, with results submitted to FIDE and the Romanian Chess Federation. In addition, the organizers offer a RON 15,000 prize fund and separate awards for U8, U10, U12 and U14 players.🌍 International Tournament Partnerships
ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare also participates in tournament projects outside Satu Mare County. This collaborative approach gives the association a wider role in Romanian tournament chess. A notable example is the Felix Sasomi International Chess Tournament at Băile Felix. The fourth edition took place in February 2026 and listed C.S. Voința Satu Mare, ACS Someș Satu Mare and Sasomi SRL Oradea as organizers. The nine-round Under-2200 competition counted for FIDE and Romanian rating. Moreover, the official FIDE prospectus directed entry-fee payments to ACS Someș Satu Mare. It also identified IO FIDE Ciprian-Sorin Muntean as a principal registration contact. Consequently, the association contributes not only its name but also practical organizational infrastructure to these joint events. The combination of the Tășnad series, Petra Chess Weekend, Felix Sasomi and the Satu Mare International Chess Festival shows a consistent pattern. ACS Șah Someș Satu Mare works with different clubs and institutions to deliver rated over-the-board chess tournaments, while Ciprian-Sorin Muntean provides continuity across several of these projects.
