Šachový klub Valdštejn Cheb z.s. is an active chess club based in the historic center of Cheb, Czech Republic. The organization brings together children, teenagers, adult club players, experienced competitors, and chess enthusiasts from Cheb and the wider Karlovy Vary Region.
The club provides regular opportunities for over-the-board play, training, tournament preparation, and team competition. Members represent ŠK Valdštejn Cheb in regional and national chess events, while the club also sends players to standard, rapid, and blitz tournaments across the Czech Republic and neighboring Germany.
ŠK Valdštejn Cheb operates from its club premises at Náměstí Krále Jiřího in central Cheb. The venue hosts training sessions, league matches, youth events, internal activities, and open competitions. In addition, the club receives support from the City of Cheb for its work within the local sporting community.
🎓 Youth Chess and Team Competition
Youth development forms a major part of the club’s program. ŠK Valdštejn Cheb trains young players and supports their participation in regional championships, Czech national championships, school competitions, junior team events, and international tournaments.
The club organizes regional youth competitions in Cheb and regularly enters large groups of young players in events throughout the season. Its juniors have achieved qualification for Czech championship events and have represented the club in national team competitions.
ŠK Valdštejn Cheb’s youth team competed in the Czech First Youth League during the 2025/26 season. The team finished fourth in its division after a season of eleven matches. This result secured the club’s position among the eligible teams for the following national youth-league season.
The organization also supports school chess. It works with educational institutions in Cheb on individual and team competitions, helping pupils gain their first experience of structured tournament play.
🏆 Tournaments and Chess Events
Tournament organization is one of the club’s principal activities. ŠK Valdštejn Cheb runs standard, rapid, blitz, youth, and commemorative competitions in Cheb and other locations within the region.
Its event program includes regional youth championships, Christmas tournaments, school competitions, anniversary events, and international projects with chess partners from neighboring Germany. These activities give beginners, juniors, adults, and experienced tournament players access to regular competitive chess.
One of the club’s principal events is the Open at Seeberg Castle. The competition is held inside the historic Seeberg Castle near Františkovy Lázně and combines FIDE-rated classical chess with a distinctive castle setting.
The 4th Open at Seeberg Castle – 12th Jiří Tišer Memorial 2026 takes place from August 2 to 7, 2026. The seven-round tournament counts for both Czech national and FIDE standard rating. Ing. Radek Zálešák serves as tournament director, while Jaroslav Pilík coordinates participant registrations.
Through youth training, team participation, school chess, regional cooperation, and tournament organization, Šachový klub Valdštejn Cheb continues to strengthen chess activity in Cheb and the wider Karlovy Vary Region.
