🏆 Bad Griesbach Senior Chess Open

Pressebüro König organizes the annual Bad Griesbach Young Senior Chess Open in cooperation with local partners, sponsors, chess officials, and the host hotel. The tournament began in 1998 and has developed into a well-established international senior event in Lower Bavaria. Only the 2001 edition and the 2020 edition did not take place. The event normally welcomes players aged 50 and above for seven rounds of FIDE-rated classical chess. Over the years, its participants and winners have included grandmasters, international masters, FIDE masters, experienced club players, and senior competitors from Germany and several other European federations. The tournament combines competitive chess with accommodation and wellness facilities in Bad Griesbach, one of Bavaria’s best-known spa destinations. The 28th edition is scheduled from November 29 to December 5, 2026, at the AktiVital Hotel. Josef König manages the organization and player registration, while FIDE Arbiter Simon Staudinger serves as tournament director and chief arbiter.
