Peña Bética Manuel Castaño de Bollullos Par del Condado is a cultural and sports association based in Bollullos Par del Condado, Huelva, Spain. The organization was formally established in 1974 as Peña Bética Recreativa Cultural and became the first sports supporters’ association of its kind in the town. It is part of the wider network of official Real Betis Balompié supporters’ clubs and maintains its permanent headquarters on Avenida de la Coronación. The association organizes cultural, social, recreational, and sporting activities for its members and the local community. Its traditional program has included trips, community celebrations, internal competitions, cultural events, and cooperation with the Municipality of Bollullos Par del Condado. In 2026, the Peña also expanded into organized chess by presenting the I Open Sub2400 Peña Bética Manuel Castaño, an internationally rated weekend tournament. Manuel León Iglesias is the current President of Peña Bética Manuel Castaño and leads its governing board. He represented the organization during its 50th-anniversary celebrations in 2024. The association entered a new area of sporting activity in 2026 with its first Sub2400 chess Open, scheduled for November 14–15 in Bollullos Par del Condado.

📜 History and Development

The origins of the Peña date to 1973, when a group of Real Betis supporters in Bollullos began organizing themselves formally. The organization was officially inaugurated on February 25, 1974 as Peña Bética Recreativa Cultural. José Camacho Fuentes became its first President. Over the following decades, the association established itself as a permanent part of local social and sporting life. Its activities included travel to Real Betis matches, cultural events, community celebrations, fairs, and internal recreational competitions. In September 2014, the association adopted the name Peña Bética Cultural Manuel Castaño. Manuel Castaño had been an important long-term supporter and benefactor of the Peña.

🌟 50th Anniversary

The organization celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024. The central anniversary event took place in February at the Peña’s headquarters. It brought together members of the association, representatives of neighboring supporters’ clubs, the Municipality of Bollullos, and the Federación de Peñas Béticas. Manuel León Iglesias represented the association as President. Josemi Camacho, Secretary and member of the board, also played a central role in the celebrations. Manuel Castaño attended the event as the person whose name the association carries. Founding member José Lagares Rosado was also present. A further anniversary event in May 2024 welcomed senior representatives of Real Betis Balompié, including club President Ángel Haro and former player Rafael Gordillo.

🤝 Community and Cultural Activity

Peña Bética Manuel Castaño has traditionally maintained strong links with the local community. Its activities extend beyond football. The organization has participated in cultural programs, municipal events, recreational competitions, and community celebrations. The association has also cooperated regularly with the Municipality of Bollullos Par del Condado. This relationship has helped establish the Peña as a longstanding social institution within the town. Its permanent headquarters also functions as a meeting place for members and community activities.

🏆 Chess Activity in 2026

The association entered a new area of competitive sport in 2026 with the creation of the I Open Sub2400 Peña Bética Manuel Castaño. The tournament is scheduled for November 14–15, 2026 in Bollullos Par del Condado. The event appears on the Spanish international tournament calendar as a Classical Sub2400 tournament. Its creation represents a significant expansion of the Peña’s traditional sports and recreational activities. By attaching its name directly to an internationally rated chess event, the organization is bringing competitive chess into a community structure that has existed for more than five decades. The tournament also provides Bollullos Par del Condado with a new weekend chess event for local, regional, and visiting players.

Real Betis Balompié continues to list Peña Bética Manuel Castaño as the supporters’ association representing Bollullos Par del Condado within the Province of Huelva.
