♟️ About the Organizer

Norbert A. Klipsch is a German chess organizer, arbiter, and player active in Freiburg im Breisgau and the surrounding region. He serves as chair of Schachbezirk Freiburg, the regional chess district that coordinates clubs and competitive chess activity in and around Freiburg. He represents the district publicly and contributes to communication about tournaments, leagues, cup competitions, youth chess, and other regional events.

Klipsch is also active at Schachclub Horben, where he serves as youth director. He takes part in the club’s work with children and young players, including regular youth training and chess activities connected with the local primary school. The club lists him as a direct contact for its youth chess program.

In addition to his organizational roles, Klipsch is a licensed chess arbiter. His official FIDE profile lists him as a National Arbiter and as an active German-rated player. This combination of tournament organization, arbitration, club activity, and regional administration gives him several practical roles within the Freiburg chess community.

🏆 Chess Events and Activities

Norbert A. Klipsch is the organizer of the 1st Freiburger Bogoljubow Open, which takes place from October 28 to November 1, 2026, at the May-Bellinghausen-Halle in Freiburg im Breisgau. He organizes the event in cooperation with chess clubs from Freiburg and also serves as its chief arbiter. Benedikt Riesterer and Nico Schepers form part of the tournament-arbitration team.

The Bogoljubow Open features separate A and B tournaments. The A tournament is intended for players with a tournament rating of at least 1800, while the B tournament is for players rated below 1800. Both sections use a 9-round Swiss-system format and count for FIDE Elo and German DWZ rating. The time control gives each player 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one.

Klipsch is also connected with regional and youth events through Schachbezirk Freiburg and SC Horben. He has served as tournament organizer and arbiter for the Schauinsland-Pokal, a youth competition for different age groups. He has also worked as chief arbiter at the Freiburg district individual championship.

🌍 Youth Chess and Regional Development

Youth chess forms an important part of Norbert A. Klipsch’s activity. At SC Horben, he supports regular training for children and works with other club members to introduce chess to primary-school pupils. These activities help young players learn the game, join a chess club, and progress toward team and individual competitions.

His work with Schachbezirk Freiburg also supports wider regional chess activity. The district communicates tournament announcements, league information, youth competitions, cup events, and championship results to players and clubs. As district chair, Klipsch contributes to this regional coordination and public communication.

Through his work as an organizer, arbiter, youth director, and district official, Norbert A. Klipsch supports both competitive chess and junior development in the Freiburg area. His confirmed activities connect local club chess with district competitions and larger open tournaments.
