♟️ About Lille Métropole Chess
Lille Métropole Chess (LMC) is a French chess club based in Lille, in the Hauts-de-France region. The club is affiliated with the Fédération Française des Échecs (FFE) under club code R59086. It provides competitive chess, regular tournaments, team competition, training, and recreational club activities. The current FFE record lists 125 Licence A members and 28 Licence B members. The present association has official registration records dating to 2000, with the stated purpose of promoting the sporting practice of chess. Since then, Lille Métropole Chess has developed a broad competitive structure. Moreover, the club now operates from a regular playing venue in Vieux-Lille while organizing events at additional venues across the city when larger playing capacity is required. Sylvain Duval currently serves as President of Lille Métropole Chess. Meanwhile, the FFE identifies Oriane Soubirou as the club’s principal contact. She also works actively in tournament administration and arbitration. The club combines this organizational structure with a large network of teams, regular FIDE-rated events, and an active program for its members.♜ Team Chess and Competitive Activity
Team chess represents a substantial part of Lille Métropole Chess. The current FFE club record places its principal team in Nationale 3, while the club also participates in regional and departmental competitions. In addition, LMC maintains a notably deep team structure. Its current competition resources include LMC1 in Nationale 3, further teams in Nationale 4, a Pré-Nationale squad, regional teams, and numerous departmental teams. Consequently, players can represent the club at several competitive levels rather than relying on a single first team. Women’s chess also forms part of this structure. The FFE currently lists Lille Métropole Chess in Nationale 1 Féminine, while its youth interclub program competes at regional level. Therefore, the club supports several different pathways into organized team chess.🏆 Tournaments and Club Activity
Lille Métropole Chess runs a busy calendar of classical, rapid, and blitz tournaments. In addition to larger opens, the club organizes smaller FIDE-rated competitions, closed tournaments, weekend festivals, and regular rapid or blitz evenings. The club’s 2026 program illustrates that activity clearly. Events include the 5e Open International de Blitz du Lille Métropole Chess, the June Festival de Tournois Classiques de Lille d’Été, monthly rapid and blitz competitions, and several closed classical events. Moreover, the club has already registered a new Lille Métropole Chess Triathlon for March 2027, combining classical, rapid, and blitz tournaments. Regular club life takes place on Monday evenings at Salle Camelot, 9 rue de la Halle, in Vieux-Lille. The club also provides chess courses and organizes social activities alongside competitive play. As a result, Lille Métropole Chess serves both tournament players and members who want regular chess activity throughout the season.🌟 1er Open International du Lille Métropole Chess
The 1er Open International du Lille Métropole Chess marks a major expansion of the club’s tournament program. Lille Métropole Chess organizes the inaugural edition from October 19–23, 2026 at Le Gymnase, 7 place Sébastopol, Lille. The FFE-homologated and FIDE-rated competition uses a seven-round Swiss system. Players receive 90 minutes for the game plus a 30-second increment from move one. Furthermore, the organizers have set a prize fund of €6,000 if the tournament reaches 140 paying participants. Thomas Len serves as the tournament organizer and also works as an assistant arbiter. Meanwhile, Oriane Soubirou serves as Chief Arbiter. The tournament regulations also introduce specific fair-play measures, including delayed transmission from electronic boards and restrictions on electronic devices. The event is significant for the club because it extends LMC’s established calendar of weekend and one-day competitions into a multi-day international classical open. Therefore, it represents an important step in the club’s development as a tournament organizer in Lille and the wider Hauts-de-France chess community.🎓 Chess Training and Club Development
Lille Métropole Chess combines competitive activity with regular chess instruction. The club publishes dedicated teaching resources and runs chess courses as part of its weekly program. In addition, its large team structure gives developing players opportunities to move from club play into official competition. The club welcomes members to its Monday evening sessions, where chess activities run alongside tournaments and social events. Its current membership system also covers the full FFE season, allowing players to obtain the appropriate federation licence through the club. This combination of teaching, regular playing opportunities, FIDE-rated tournaments, and team competition creates several routes for continued development. Meanwhile, the youth team and women’s team programs broaden the competitive opportunities available through the association.
