L’Échiquier Châlonnais also runs the Parties de Champagne, a recurring series designed to give players additional rated long-play experience throughout the season. The tournaments are played at the Pôle Henri Dunant and use a time control of 50 minutes plus a 10-second increment per move. Unlike a single weekend congress, the series provides several separate competition dates during the year. Participation is free, making the events particularly useful for club members and developing players who want additional serious tournament experience. The program continues through the second half of 2026 with further editions scheduled during the autumn and winter.

🌍 Internationaux de France Rapide & Blitz 2026

The most important tournament project of L’Échiquier Châlonnais in its 80th-anniversary year is the Internationaux de France Rapide & Blitz 2026. The event takes place on September 19–20, 2026 at the Palais des Sports Pierre de Coubertin in Châlons-en-Champagne. It is organized by L’Échiquier Châlonnais in partnership with the Fédération Française des Échecs, with support from local and regional institutions. The rapid competition is followed by the French international blitz championship, which is played over 13 rounds at 5 minutes plus a 3-second increment per move. The competition is open to players of different ages, strengths, and nationalities, from developing competitors to Grandmasters. National titles are awarded across the overall championship as well as age and other official categories. Diego Salazar is the club director and principal organizer responsible for the local organization of the event. Hosting the championship during the club’s 80th anniversary gives the tournament particular significance and connects one of France’s major national chess events with the long history of L’Échiquier Châlonnais.

🏛️ Organization and Leadership

Claude Pogu is the current President of L’Échiquier Châlonnais. Diego Salazar serves as Director and is the club’s principal operational public contact. He has played a major role in the development of the organization and is also President of the Comité Départemental du Jeu d’Échecs de la Marne. The organization currently operates with a professional staff of approximately eight employees in addition to volunteers, coaches, arbiters, and team officials. This professional structure supports an unusually broad program covering high-level competition, youth instruction, schools, community projects, training camps, tournaments, and chess activities across the Marne area.
