Le Touquet – Côte d’Opale Echecs Club is an established chess organization based in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, Pas-de-Calais, France. The club was founded on February 5, 1964, originally under the name Touquet – Echecs Club, with the objective of promoting, teaching, and developing chess in Le Touquet and across the Côte d’Opale. The club is affiliated with the Fédération Française des Échecs (FFE) under club code R62006. Its regular activities are based at the Maison des Associations in Le Touquet, where members can take part in training, introductory sessions, recreational play, and competitive preparation. The FFE currently lists both adult and junior interclub participation for the organization. Romain Christophe-Hayot serves as President and is the club’s principal public contact. The current committee also includes Stéphane Horville as Treasurer and Daniel Antoine as Secretary, with Cédric Bilke and Marie Galaczy serving as committee members.

🏆 Tournaments & Chess Activities

Le Touquet – Côte d’Opale Echecs Club organizes FIDE-rated tournaments and has developed a particularly strong partnership with Manoir Hôtel – Touquet Golf Resort. The club launched its international tournament activity at the Manoir Hôtel in 2023. That first edition was followed by further tournaments in 2024 and 2025, with classical and blitz events attracting players to Le Touquet from France and abroad. The festival format has continued to grow. The 3ème Festival Manoir Hôtel Touquet Golf Resort 2026 was officially organized by Le Touquet – Côte d’Opale Echecs Club, with Romain Christophe-Hayot serving as President of the organizing committee. The competition combined classical and blitz tournaments at the four-star Manoir Hôtel. For 2027, the club has expanded the festival into separate Accession and Master weeks. Each week includes a classical FIDE tournament together with a blitz event. The Open Accession – 4ème Festival Manoir Touquet Golf Resort 2027 runs from February 8–12, while the Master tournament follows from February 22–26.

♟️ Manoir Touquet Golf Resort Festival

The Manoir Touquet Golf Resort festival has become the club’s principal international tournament project. Its concept combines competitive chess with a residential stay at one of Le Touquet’s established resort properties. The 2027 Accession tournament consists of seven FIDE-rated classical rounds and is open without an Elo restriction. The corresponding blitz tournament is also FIDE-rated. The later Master week follows a similar structure, giving players two opportunities to participate during February. Romain Christophe-Hayot coordinates the festival, while Philippe Blot serves as arbiter for the 2027 tournaments. The club works closely with Manoir Hôtel, which provides the playing venue as well as dedicated accommodation packages for participants. This cooperation allows visiting players to stay and play at the same property, creating a tournament environment that combines chess, accommodation, dining, and the wider facilities of Touquet Golf Resort.

🌱 Training & Club Development

Le Touquet – Côte d’Opale Echecs Club provides regular chess training and introductory sessions for local players. Current club sessions are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the club advertises free introductory chess instruction. The association participates in both adult and junior regional team competition. This provides developing members with opportunities to progress from club instruction into official competition under the French Chess Federation structure. The club also maintains a significant connection with tournament arbitration. FFE records show that Le Touquet – Côte d’Opale has several qualified high-level arbiters among its membership, strengthening its capacity to organize officially rated competitions.

📚 History & Development

Founded in 1964, the club has more than six decades of chess history in Le Touquet. Its statutes define its mission as the practice, teaching, and development of chess throughout Le Touquet and the broader Côte d’Opale area. The organization has evolved substantially over the years. Earlier periods focused primarily on local club activity and regional competition, while the current program increasingly combines traditional club chess with international tournament organization. The development of the Manoir Hôtel festival represents the most visible part of this expansion. Beginning with the first international open at Touquet Golf Resort in 2023, the project has grown into a recurring multi-event festival with classical and blitz tournaments, dedicated accommodation packages, and FIDE-rated competition. Today, Le Touquet – Côte d’Opale Echecs Club combines its long local history with junior chess, regional interclubs, chess instruction, and an expanding international tournament program.
